RJ Farms, Leone’s Farms and Caldwell Farms will have both carving and pie pumpkins this week.

Whether you are looking for a pumpkin to carve or one to eat, a huge bright-colored bunch of flowers, a nice chunk of meat to roast, a crusty loaf of bread, wild mushrooms, wines, local apples, pears …..or gorgeous fall veggies …..we will have it!  Find us rain or shine this Saturday, October 17th, and on Saturday Oct. 24th on the parking lot at 2051, Kaen Rd, off Beavercreek Rd, 9am-2pm. We then take Halloween off and return for the start of the Winter Market (now in the same location as summer market!) Saturday November 7th, 10am-2pm. The winter season markets run every-other week through April.

Bring Fall to your table this weekend. Beautiful cauliflower, carrots, loads of greens, including lettuce and salad mix, peppers, tomatoes, potatoes, onions and much more. Plenty of winter squash now in the Market too.  Check out the varieties. Roast them and make a hearty soup with beans…the sweet Delicatas are great and simple to prepare and you can eat the skin too. Rinse, cut open, remove seeds, slice, toss in oil and garlic and bake on high.                   http://summertomato.com/better-than-butternut-roasted-delicata-squash-recipe/             But if you’re in the mood for making soup, here is a simple butternut squash soup recipe with bacon.  You could also add some wild mushrooms!         http://damndelicious.net/2014/12/10/roasted-butternut-squash-bacon-soup/

2015-10-10 09.08.46Quoting Joel Salatin (Twenty-first century pioneer , farmer , author and contrarian thinker) “Favorite meals and favorite dishes form many of a family’s deepest memories”  and ” No health system in the world, public or private, can ultimately work if a culture exits it’s kitchens and essentially subcontracts that important work to others”….so to get us all back in the kitchen , eating local healthy foods and creating those memories we have Amy in the Market Kitchen cooking up some seasonal market foods , giving us inspiration and delicious samples! Take home a recipe too.

POP Club kid news: This week we’ll send the POP Club kids on a fall produce scavenger hunt and as always give them (ages 5-12 yrs) $2 to buy their own fresh produce. We’re not open Halloween but you can bring the kids next Saturday and have them judge their fave vendor costume and the 4H kids will have face-painting and treats plus an animal or two to show you. The POP Club will run through the winter, hopefully! But we could use as many tax-deductible donations as possible to maintain this great program. If you are feeling generous there is a Donate Here button on the right side of this page, and thank you!
