Time for Winter Salads!

By 30 November 2017

Market tokens make great gifts.

Every winter market is really a ‘stock up’ market as we are only open twice a month (December dates are the 2nd and 16th). If you forget your shopping bags to fill up we sell two Oregon City Farmers Market bag options. What else can you find at our Information Booth? Well it might seem obvious but information is our specialty! Missing a vendor, a product? Ask us, we are in the know! Also at the booth you can purchase tokens with your Debit and SNAP Cards (with a $10 SNAP match each week too) to spend at the market, however most vendors take debit and credit. The market’s $5 debit tokens also make a cool gift for that hard-to-buy-for person (who doesn’t eat??) …just add a shopping bag and a market schedule. Plus, did you realize we are a 501c3 non-profit and that you can donate to the market at the Information Booth or on-line herehttps://orcityfarmersmarket.com/support-your-market/   All donations are tax-deductible and very welcome. Both our (nationally-recognised) Kids POP Club (https://orcityfarmersmarket.com/pop-club/) and the $10 SNAP Match program (that benefits families in need https://orcityfarmersmarket.com/using-snap-cards-market/) are completely donation funded, so we welcome your support!

It might be wet and cold Saturday, but the market will be warm with good cheer!

With the richness of Thanksgiving and Holiday foods and the creepy winter colds and flu around, now is a good time for nutritious winter salads! Sun Love Farm has several beautiful varieties of chicories. These slightly bitter (and oh-so-good-for-you) greens can be soaked in salt water to remove the bitterness, made into salads (lovely with a creamy or fruity dressing), sauteed in a pan and added warm to a vinaigrette dressing with toasted nuts, or used in soups. RJ Farms have plenty of greens too and their spinach or kale is easily chopped finely into salads. Several farmers have Brussels and they make a wonderful salad as well. RJ Farms have delicious fresh walnuts to add to this salad!    https://www.onceuponachef.com/recipes/shaved-brussels-sprouts-salad-parmesan-walnuts-lemon-mustard-dressing.html

Carl (CH Woodworking) always has quality hand-made wood items.

The first frost could well be next week with the forecast of cold nights coming. Warm up your toes at the market on Saturday with a sample of steaming mulled wine. Kings Raven Winery will be offering tastes. Purchase a bottle of wine, take home a package of their mulling spices and make your own. Eastside Distillery and Thomas and Sons Distillery (yes they will be there) will both have ideas for some holiday hooch too. Sweet Chaos is back with brownies and treats, but out is Brown Bottle Farm (they are getting engaged!!) and Knife-Sharpening…both back next Market, Dec. 16th.

Maggys Farm is back with fresh greenery, paperwhites and hand-painted signs.

In time for gift-giving we welcome 2 new vendors with unusual items. The Tilted Halo has joined us with something we can all use…the Stool Stool. Yup probably doesn’t need explaining but this product gets great reviews! Stop by and talk to the friendly folk in the booth and get the gift that keeps on giving! The High Desert Pickers join us too with all kinds of art made from recycled farm equipment and wine barrels, save some time to ‘pick’ through their display, they are bringing A LOT! Maggys Farm will have fresh greenery bunches, wreaths, potted paperwhites (heavenly fragrance when open, a touch of spring to come) and holiday and decorative signs made out of barn boards.

Don’t let the damp put you off! The market is completely full this Saturday, with so much to choose from, plus plenty of close parking, hot food and drinks, live music 10.30-1.30 (Coin of the Realm playing gypsy and folk)……..and lots of friendly faces!
