Taste Summer in the Market Kitchen!

By 14 June 2018

Chef Deborah is back in the Market Kitchen, 10am-12.30pm. This week she is making a Fresh Vegetable Salad with a fruity nut dressing! Come by and get a taste, pick up a recipe. She’ll be using the fresh green beans now in the market together with zucchini, carrots and beets. One of Bliss Nut Butters will be added to the dressing, with some fresh garlic scapes and ginger from the Spice Pilgrim. This easy and healthy salad can be adapted to whatever is in the market this summer.

We still have a couple farms joining us next month, (Kiyokawa Orchards and Udan Fam) but most are in now. The warmer weather is bringing on the summer crops.  You’ll find garlic scapes, beans, zucchini, cucs, carrots, purple cauliflower, broccoli, beets, snow peas, snap peas,( even shelling peas!),  cabbage (so sweet and juicy…..time for sauerkraut?!) salad greens, lettuce, radicchio and more is coming this week! Raspberries are making an entrance, along with the strawberries, we may even see some blackberries (hoophouse grown) this week….and coming soon, Marions and Boysens!

Sacred Summit has wonderful hand-crafted pure chocolate , heavenly truffles and Kombucha too!

It’s going to be a beautiful Father’s Day! We’ll have lots of protein for the grill this weekend….and next week as the hot weather continues, so stock up. Campfire Farm and Fisher Ridge Farm both raise pastured meats, sustainably (so important in this day and age of hideous factory farms). Wild Oregon is coming with fresh-from-the-coast Oregon seafood. Troll-caught Chinook head’s the list for Dad’s Day, along with Petrale Sole, Rock Fish, Razor and Steamer Clams and fresh shrimp! Robin also has frozen fish , check her sale board. And don’t forget to pick up a fruit pie for Dad…or may be some hand-crafted chocolate from Sacred Summit or some truffles from Posh Sweets! Portland Cider Company is coming as well as Eastside Distillery and don’t forget you can now get cocktails in a can for Dad from Oregon City’s own 503 Distillery. Or pick up Dad cold-brewed coffee in a bottle (Prosper Coffee) for the hot week ahead.

New vendor Belamy Leather has excellent quality hand cut and sewn leather goods, which make unusual gifts. Check them out Saturday!

We are still looking for help setting up the market. It need not be every week…and you have the added advantage of getting to shop early. Please see us at the Info Booth and sign up to help us out, even if it’s just 2 hours a month, we will thank you! We have just one more day to vote for the Best of Oregon City. Hoping the Market can get some votes and win a category again:)  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BestofOC

Lot’s off fresh green beans at this time of the season. Delicious in a salad, while something is grilling!

Confused about what you can and cannot recycle? The Master Recyclers can help you this Saturday. With their nifty display it’s easy to see what you CAN! Our wonderful FREE cloth produce bags are coming to the end, so if you want one, stop by the Info Booth this Saturday ($1 suggested donation)! Kid’s can plant a sunflower to take home, as well as collect (ages 5-12yrs) $2 in wooden tokens to spend on fresh produce. High Five Cup Bop is back as is Sara’s Tamales for hot food selections. Bama BBQ will be back later this month, Market Pasta will continue for the whole season starting next week. 64 vendors this week.
