More Strawberries this week!
Finally the field strawberries are starting to come in. In addition to RJ Farms super-sweet berries, Albeke Farms will have their field berries this week.
With Simington Gardens (Certified Organic) back in the Market for the summer, we now have baby beets in jewel colors, lovely baby carrots and the first baby zucchini, Sun Love Farms has cut herbs, pretty radishes, duck eggs and Caldwell Farm has loads of just-picked broccoli.
T’is the season of asparagus, and the little spears from Profarm don’t need any preparation, or if you prefer bigger ones RJ Farms has ’em. Sweet snap peas are in season, find them on many farmers tables. Pick up a recipe from the Market Kitchen, Chef Amy is featuring them this week in Asian Rice.
Pastured meats, fresh seafood, raw-milk cheese, baked goods, tons of eggs, (hens, duck…even goose!), honey, nut butters, crafts, flowers and plants. Clean Slate Suds are back as are Utopia Woodworking with their Adirondack Chairs.
Veggies plant starts now include tomatoes,peppers, herbs, cukes, squash and herbs. Most are either Certified Organic or Certified Naturally Grown. Next week will be perfect planting weather after the showers this weekend. And with a dip in the weather it might be time to pick up a loaf of crusty bread, a slice of cheddar cheese and make a seafood chowder. Wid Oregon will have Salmon, Halibut, Ling Cod, Rock Fish, Clams, plus frozen prawns. Experiment with different seafood, herbs, add a dash of white wine, diced potatoes, sprinkle cheese on top, there are many ways to create a hearty fish soup.
