More Farms…..More Produce!

By 16 June 2017

RJ Farms will have Strawberries, Raspberries and Blackberries this week.

Two more farms are back in the Market this week, Parsons Farms and Leones Farms, both with fruit and veggies. We’ll have loads of berries from several farms, Strawberries, Raspberries, Blackberries, Gooseberries and Maryhill are send the first Apriums (a cross between an apricot and plum) as well as their Cherries, Profarm are bringing certified Organic Cherries too!  Asparagus is just about finished, but the first zucchini, garlic scapes, cabbage, beets, cukes are showing up instead. Don’t you love this time of year when the market is always changing??!! Due to the cooler spring the lettuce is delicious right now, and there is something so satisfying about a plain green salad dressed with a lemon, olive oil and lots of garlic. If you have fresh herbs add them too: https://www.dadcooksdinner.com/lemon-herb-dressing/

Fresh baked butter-crust pies….pick up one for Dad!

Need something to treat Dad this Fathers Day? The Pie Guy has just the thing, butter-crust fresh fruit pies….and don’t forget the Chocolate Cream pie! But we are jumping ahead, start the meal off on the grill with a nice slab of grass-fed meat or poultry (Fisher Ridge Farm and Birkeland Farm can help you), or Wild Oregon’s  seafood fresh from the Coast (Chinook, Petrale Sole, Rock Fish…Shrimp!). Shy Ann Meats has a good selection of bacon and sausages and we’ll have plenty of eggs…fix Dad a special breakfast, and finish up with Diana’s Delights Proper British Scones and jam!

More produce this week..yea! Sun Love Farm has beets back on the tables.

Eastside Distillery and Vivacity Spirits are both at the Market this Saturday….with great ideas for cocktails! Local wines from Kings Raven Winery and Forest Edge can make a great gift for Dad too and  Double Jump Coffee Roasters have packs of their beans for Dad if that’s his tipple.  Does he need  garden tool or kitchen knife sharpening? As Iron Sharpens Iron will get everything ship-shape for him…..or just bring Dad on Saturday and treat him to brunch. Second Son Kimbap’s Korean Beef Bowl is delicious and Ingrid’s Scandinavian Meat-Ball Leftse is heaven, her cream-filled pastries too! Find both these ex-PDX food carts under one very cute roof on 7th St in Oregon City. They even serve cocktails now at the restaurant…and you can bring  Arch Bridge Taproom’s beer (next door) over to drink with the food and visa versa.

One of the kids favorite activities this week….

It’s wheat-grinding and pancake-making this week….the POP Club kids all-time favorite activity! Bring the 5-12 yr olds to pedal like crazy. They grind the hard wheat berries in a grain mill fixed to a stationary bike, then we make them pancakes from the flour! Thanks to the support of Bob’s Red Mill for the wheat berries, and we’ll have packs of their granola to hand out. The OSU Extension Master Food Preservers will be on site to assist you with any summer canning questions too.

OSU Master Food Preservers will be at the Market…bring your questions!

Back this week is Culture Aromatics (if you have not tried their packs of fab dried organic veggie seasonings …you are missing out on a whole lot of flavor, no pantry should be without them!) Olympia Provisions (you know their sausages and fries from the food window at Oregon City Brewing Co.), Market Pasta (perfect with the shrimp in the market), BBNW with beautiful candles in amazing fragrances (need a gift..wedding, shower, birthday?). Out this week, back next is Utopia Woodworking (Adirondack chairs) , La Fountain skin care, Campfire Farms (pastured pork). Maggy’s Farm is out now until August, when winter veggie starts will be available for planting.

Back at the Market is BBNW Candles…..made and fragranced without nasty chemicals!

For all who came out to our Preparedness and Safety Fair last week a big thank you! The weather was less than ideal, but we hope you took home some tips to keep your family safer in a disaster. If you stopped by the County’s booth and made the green cleaner here’s an update from them:  “We would like to notify any farmers market goers who received a sample of homemade soft scrub at our booth on Saturday, June 10, that we made a mistake.  We discovered too late that our baking soda was actually washing soda, a slightly different compound that is a green cleaner ingredient, but not compatible with soft scrub.  You’ve likely discovered that the mixture is no longer a “soft” scrub, but more like a pumice stone.  We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and we invite you to stop by our booth at the July 8th market and grab a pre-made soft scrub (2 tbspbaking soda, 1 tbsp castile soap).  Hope to see you then!”. Meanwhile mark your calendars for the July 15th Repair Fair at the market…..more later!

Bunches Sweet Peas this week from RJ Farms.

Getting the customers dancing this week is Big Yellow Taxi….everyone’s favorite local band, playing from 10am-1.30pm.  Order some food, pull up a chair, and relax at the Market!
