Market this week and Seed Swap coming up!

By 1 March 2018

Camelina Oil…not only good for your body, but skin too!Try some on Saturday.

It will be good to back in force this Saturday after such a wash out last market day! Thanks to all who showed up. We seldom close the market unless it’s downright dangerous as the farmers have picked, the bakers have baked and the fish have been caught. AND we don’t want to disappoint our loyal customers! We did manage to stay open till 12.30pm when a squall knocked us out completely. No such weather this week though and we have a great line up of 35 farmers and vendors and more joining us next Market (fresh flowers, plants etc) for the rest of the season. Check out the interactive map on for the full vendor list on our web site: https://orcityfarmersmarket.com/.

Fresh and delicious from RJ Farms!

So….lots of spring greens again.. Miners lettuce, Arugula, Spinach, Mizuna and Radish are coming from RJ Farms, plus potatoes, onions, walnuts and hazelnuts and oh…. so many eggs! More produce from Sun Love Farm (Kale, leeks, turnips, broccoli and more) and Brown Bottle Farm. Birkeland Farm has plenty of grass-fed beef and is taking pre-orders for chicken. Lynne’s delicious bone broth will be plentiful, plus eggs too. Wild Oregon will have fresh Crab, Mussels, Steamer Clams and Oysters. Dover Sole and Steelhead Salmon round off the fresh. Robin will also have a good selection of vac-packed frozen fish, and quick and easy crab cakes and clam chowder. 35 farmers and vendors including 2 Sisters Bakery (vegan cinnamon rolls and bread) and (new vendor) 505 Distilling is joining us. Out for the season is Kiyokawa Orchards (back in July) and Campfire Farms (back in May). Bring your coffee! Double Jump Coffee is OUT this week , back on the 17th March. See above for the full vendor list.

Reminder, next Market March 17th,  is our annual Seed and Plant Swap! Well it’s more than that. You can bring root divisions, cuttings, tubers, unwanted pots, tools, bamboo canes…anything ‘gardeny’ to help your neighbors enjoy the soil this spring. Kids will get to plant peas to take home and the Master Gardeners will be around to answer questions. We always have seeds (mainly open-pollinated, organic and /or heirloom) to take if you can’t bring any and we’d like to give a BIG thanks to the following amazing (Safe Seed) companies for their very generous donations, If you are looking to buy seeds please think of them FIRST when ordering. By supporting small seed companies dedicated to safe, open-pollinated, and /or heirloom seeds we are protecting our seed supply from the mega chemical and bio-tech seed companies. Want to know more on this subject of preserving our diverse, rare and heirloom seeds? The Oregon City Library is having a free showing (Friday April 6th) of an informative and moving film ‘Seed-The Untold Story” (link below) which follows passionate seed keepers protecting our 12,000 year-old food legacy. As biotech chemical companies control the majority of our seeds, farmers, scientists, lawyers, and indigenous seed keepers fight a David and Goliath battle to defend the future of our food. In a harrowing and heartening story, these heroes rekindle a lost connection to our most treasured resource and revive a culture connected to seeds. Please support the heroes below:
