Our much-anticipated Holiday Market is this Saturday, Dec 16th!

We are celebrating the season from 10am-2pm and you don’t want to miss it. With fresh produce, farm direct groceries, greenery, wreaths, gifts, and distilled beverages, the market has all the ingredients to make your holidays bright.

As a reminder, this is the last market of the year. We will return on January 6th so plan on stocking up this Saturday!

This week our newsletter shares some tips how to make your produce last longer. We can attest they are excellent techniques to increase longevity without sacrificing quality or nutrients.

We’re excited to welcome The Steve and Margot show with live holiday music and our market board of directors will be serving complementary hot apple cider from Kiyokawa Orchards. PNW Kettle Corn will be back for this market with freshly popped corn to add to our festivities. With close to 70 vendors this week, our farms and small businesses are looking forward to connecting with our community.

If you haven’t done so, make sure to check out our Holiday Gift Guide for inspiration while shopping the market. https://mailchi.mp/115822b23e11/announcing-our-holiday-gift-guide?e=94940c9a52

We wish you a season of peace and abundance.

There is nothing bland about winter farm produce. The colors are bright and enticing, especially during the dark days of winter. Stocking up is absolutely encouraged because good news, fresh produce lasts longer. Why? Winter produce is heartier and able to withstand winter temperatures and climates, especially when it’s grown locally. Plan on prepping your produce upon return from the market so you can enjoy it throughout the next few weeks.

Ways to Increase the Life of Fresh Produce:

  • Buy fresh, seasonal produce from farmers markets.
  • Storage crops: (winter squash, onions, garlic, potatoes) do not need refrigeration. Store loosely, uncovered at a cool room temp. Do not place in bags.
  • Greens and Chicories: Winter offers a plethora of hearty greens. Keep them sealed and dry in containers with tight fitting seals and place in crisper drawers.  You are welcome to pre-wash but make sure greens are completely dry before placing them in fridge.
  • Root Veggies: (parsnips, radish, carrots, beets, etc.). Remove leafy green tops and store separately (use in soups, pesto’s, broth). Seal root veggies in containers with tight fighting lids and place in fridge.
  • Apples and Pears: Store sealed (plastic or silicone bags are ideal) in the crisper drawer.
  • Cabbages: Store whole in crisper drawer in a sealed bag or container

We hope this helps when considering your purchases this Saturday!

This is the last week for SNAP recipients to use up Double Up Food Bucks and Produce Match coupons before they expire.

After Dec 31st the 2023 coupons are no longer valid and may not be used as currency at our farm booths.

We are grateful to share we have funding for the 2024 year and will continue to offer the 1.00 for 1.00 match/up to 20.00 in produce funds!
