Fresh Lunch Inspiration

By 19 May 2021

Visit us on Saturdays from 9-2pm! We are located at 2051 Kaen Rd (corner of Kaen and Beavercreek Roads) in Oregon City

Last week RJ Farms sold all their strawberries in 17 minutes! As the season progresses larger quantities and additional berry farmers will be joining us, so stay tuned for those updates.

You can find plenty of green and purple asparagus this week, thanks to RJ Farms and Pheasant’s Eye. Fresh carrots, beets and broccoli are showing up on farmer’s tables as well. Warmer days will continue to bring new additions so make it fun by trying one new produce item per week. Our farmers are eager to share easy cooking methods and delicious ways to bring a unique vegetable to your table.

Dress up your space this week with gorgeous peonies from Lee GardensMay’s Flowers and Hill Tree Gardens! The season is fleeting for peonies so enjoy them while you can!

We’re having lots of fun seeing all the creative garden art made from found objects and upcycled pieces at the market, thanks to our talented artisans. Karla of Karla’s Green Glass Designs has some items to make your garden sing this season! Check out her beautiful display of bird baths, wind chimes and more.

Read on for important market updates, lunch inspirations and which vendors will be here on Saturday!

We appreciate your support of small farms and local makers!

Many of us have been living the work from home life for well over a year. By now lunch has turned into a predictable menu.

This week we’re bringing a few ideas to reignite the work from home lunch hour. These ideas will have you looking forward to your break!

Quiche Me If You Can offers full size and petite quiches. These hold up great in the fridge and reheat like a dream in the oven. Cover with foil at 350 until warmed through. Buy a few small ones in a variety of flavors, such as Roasted Garlic with Broccoli and Irish Dubliner Cheese or buy a large one and portion it out for easy lunch retrieval. Christa buys all of her ingredients from local farms and makes each quiche individually.

Liz from Queen Chili (and Owl & Anchor) has released a line of made from scratch chilis, such as her well known Cincinnati Chilis and a Hot Bean vegan option. Reheat a portion at lunch time, top with salsa and chips from Hot Mama Salsa or a chunky picante sauce from Picasso’s PDX Picante along with a dollop of sour cream from Mundus Foods and cilantro from one of our farms.

If a snack plate is more to your liking, then select a cheese such as Fromage Blanc from By George Farm. Spread on one of Grano’s baguettes and top with Rose City Pepperheads jelly.

Prepare a quick hummus platter by cutting up some fresh carrots and radish dippers from Brown Bottle, Sun Love, Coyote Ridge or Farm D’ICI. Pair with hummus and naan or pita chips from The Hummus Stop.

Prefer to  keep things old school? Let’s elevate that PB&J by using some of Bliss’ Nut Butter and Diana’s Delights raspberry jam on Fat Dutch Bread’s sprouted grain.

Don’t forget to round out your meals with some fresh strawberries from RJ Farms or Kombucha from 4 Hearts!

You can find all of these vendors at the market this Saturday!

As much as we love our furry friends, please remember they are not allowed in the market due to the following:

Our market operates on County property.

Our aisles tend to become busy with customers and dogs and their leashes are easily tripped over, which can result in injury to both humans and animals.

On warm days our asphalt becomes very warm which is not safe for pup’s paws.

We appreciate your understanding!

Masks are still required at Farmers Markets. On May 18th, the Oregon Health Authority released updated guidance about mask wearing and distancing requirements for fully vaccinated folks against COVID-19.

“In public settings where vaccination status is not checked, masks will still be required.”

Our market will not be checking the vaccination status of our customers so we kindly ask you to continue wearing a mask.

Please view the link for OHA’s latest Interim Guidance for fully vaccinated folks
