It's Fall at Leone's farm!

It’s Fall at Leone’s Farm!

We often get calls about wet weather…and YES we are open during the damp days,  it’s Oregon after all! Produce is still picked, meat packed, seafood caught, baked goods warm from the oven, artisan foods created and we are a very hardy bunch! The Market sets up rain or shine on the parking lot at 2051, Kaen Rd, off Beavercreek Rd, every Saturday through Oct 24th, 9am-2pm. We are closed Oct 31st and open the very next Saturday, Nov. 7th (10am-2pm) for the Winter Season…in the SAME location as the summer market! Pick up a new Winter Market schedule this week at the Info Booth.

Cider Pressing THIS Saturday!

Cider Pressing THIS Saturday!

Bring the kids and have them make fresh cider, thanks to Natural Harvest Farm and their beautiful press. We’ll help the kids toss in the apples and turn the press. Then take the juice and serve you hot cider. (It will be under canopies if rainy) This is a great opportunity to taste really fresh delicious cider and it gives the kids an understanding of how this drink is created. Thanks to Parsons Farms and Kiyokawa Orchards for the apple donations. Kiyokawa Orchards has just been rated in the top 5 Best US Orchards! http://www.kiyokawafamilyorchards.com/                                                                                Last week their ‘Mt. Rose’ and ‘Crimson Crisp’ apples won the taste test, with Parson’s Farms ‘Liberty’ and Leon’s Farms ‘Braeburn’ coming in second and third. Get a taste of them all on Saturday.

IMG_2983The OSU EXtension Master Food Preservers return this week with examples of preserved apples, get ideas and take home recipes. Whether you are canning or freezing apple sauce, drying apple slices or making an apple chutney, they’ll have tips and answer questions on all kinds of preserving techniques. The Market Kitchen’s Chef Deborah is making an apple-topping for pancakes…get a taste and take home a recipe.

It’s a wonderful time in the Market , melding both the summer and fall seasonal products. We have plenty of cukes, all kinds of peppers and tomatoes, and the fall mushrooms, pears, greens, cabbages and squashes are in too. Yup….Pumpkin Pies are happening!…and the fall flower colors are spectacular.

The Kid’s POP (Power Of Produce) Club will run through the winter too. Kids (5-12 years old) will get a reuseable shopping bag and $2 EVERY time they come to  market to buy fresh produce. To help support the POP program we are selling the spooky aliens again! Made by volunteer Bonnie theses decorations are made from milk jugs and last for years….you can place battery votive candles inside them on Halloween and hang in trees….real scary!
