Leones Farms Cinderella Pumpkins

Leones Farms Cinderella Pumpkins

This Saturday (9am-2pm, 2051, Kaen Rd) find Pumpkins of all sizes and colors, (including Cinderella pumpkins at Leone’s Farm) for decoration AND for eating. Making your own pumpkin puree for pies is easy, never buy a can again. Pie pumpkins are the smaller ones, with less of a cavity inside, ask the farmers which ones will bake well.  Cut into two, remove seeds and roast flesh side down on baking tray with about a quarter inch of water till soft. Whiz in a food processor. The seeds are great tossed in oil and salt and roasted  for a snack. Winter squash can be used the same way for puree. Loads of Acorn, blue Kuri, Butternut and personal fave…Delicatta are now in the Market (creamy white with green stripes) and they cook easily and are so tasty! It’s been an excellent season for peppers and they will be in abundance at the Market Saturday too, hot ones and big bell peppers….lovely stuffed with rice, ground meat and /or other veggies, they freeze easily.  FYI: Parson’s Farms have Kiwi Berries now..smooth-skinned and super sweet, these are a nutritional power-house, aid in digestion too.

'tis the Apple Season!

Profarm have more of their wonderful cider this week!

SalsaDid you know..our very own Green Card Salsa won 9 (!) national awards for best salsa in New Orleans last month? Make sure you get a taste of them all…especially the new one for the fall season Forbidden Cinn. A perfect blend of apples and cinnamon, that reminds you of crisp days, fireside laughter and curling up on the sofa! AND we have award-winning coffee too…Happyrock Coffee was just a finalist in the America’s Best Espresso Competition 2013! (With Blend No. 5.) Pick up a bag of beans and have a treat this weekend.

He Sells These Shells will have an end of season special on landscaping shells…4 bags for $25. Plus lots of great squirrel food 4 pounds for $5 or 50 pounds for $40.  And don’t forget to bring your garden tools and knives to be sharpened, Sir Sharp-A-Lot will be at the next 2 markets only before winter…don’t get caught with dull blades during the holidays:)
