Apple-Tasting, Fruit Wines and more Cheese!

By 21 September 2017

More like this from Brown Bottle Farm!

Whoa what a change in the weather this week! Very glad the rain helped douse the fires and cleared the air of smoke, but I’m still not ready for the end of sun. The warmer days ahead are perfect to help the farmers get the last summer crops in from the fields. There have been storm casualties though and May’s Flowers and Produce have reported flower losses, including their gorgeous dahlias, so they are sitting this week out as a result. So too is Wild Oregon Seafood, the stormy seas have literally scared way the fish!

Olympia Provisions is back with their charcuterie Saturday.

However we still have a full line-up of vendors with some returning ones. Wandering Duck fruit wines is one, Olympia Provisions, Culture Aromatics, BBNW Candles and the Grate Plate are all back too this Saturday and Windy Acres Dairy Farm is sending Jack, Gouda and Feta over from the farm near Prineville. Pat (formally from Cada Dia Cheese Company) is weaving his magic at a neighboring dairy now and is excited to be back at our market!

You’ll be sampling all the market apples …and get to vote for your fave!

It’s the annual APPLE-TASTING Saturday! Come and try all the different varieties we have and vote for your favorite. We’ll give a certificate to the farm whose fruit wins the Best Apple Taste Test! Chef Deborah is back in the Market Kitchen and making Spiced Apple Chutney. This will be served with some of Campfire Farms delicious bratwurst! The demo starts around 10am, but Deborah will be cooking for several hours, so stop by get a taste and a recipe. She’ll have other ideas of what to serve the chutney with this Fall.

Farmers tables look spectacular at this time of year!

As the season changes, so does the selection on the farmers tables. This time of year is the best for the widest array. We are coming to the end of the summer crops and just starting with the fall produce. There is still time to buy the glorious tomatoes and peppers however and corn is around too, but the winter squash is now showing up, along with more cabbage and lettuce, that are loving the cooler temps.

Come watch Chef Deborah cook ..and get a taste. Starting at 10am.

Fun music this week by the Rogue Bluegrass band…bring the kids, they’ll be dancing! Sara’s Tamales and Second Son Kimbap (spicy rice bowls) will have hot food for sale and (new-ish vendor) Sweet Chaos (next to The Pie Guy) has really unusual brownies and other goodies for a sweet treat.

Good time to stock up Bone Broth from Birkeland Farm…and make soup!

We still NEED VOLUNTEERS to help set up and take down the Market…..we are running on a shoestring and this week will be barley able to get the market ready (starting at 7am) ….or pack it up again (at 2pm). If you can help out for even an hour (two would be perfect) please call 503 734-0192 and let us know! Pick up a bookmark of the Winter Season schedule at the Information Booth. We run every Saturday now through Oct 28th (9am-2pm)…the very NEXT weekend (November 4th) we open for the winter and run every-other week (more or les) through till April 28th, but open at 10am not 9am, closing at 2pm like the summer season.
