In Winter there’s a lot going on!

By 18 January 2018

You may think winter time is slow on a vegetable farm, even if they are still harvesting for the Winter Market. While you are correct on less outdoor activity, compared to the spring and summer, our farmers have been busy planning the crops for this year, ordering seeds and getting their hoop houses ready.  A couple of our farms have been working on different ways to offer their produce for sale . Sun Love Farm and Brown Bottle Farm ,both Certified Naturally Grown (to and often above organic standards!) have just launched their Farm Share programs. A Farm Share is a Market Credit that you can spend as you see fit at their booths this spring and summer. For more info on how they work contact the farms directly or better still , come to market this Saturday and have a chat with them!

               The Crepe Truck is back!

Gone this week is RJ Farm, so eggs will be limited, but Birkeland Farms will have some, get there early! Sun Love Farm is bringing a nice selection of greens this weekend including miners lettuce, mustards, salad mix, kale, parsley, radicchio, plus beets, leeks, cabbage and sprouts. Brown Bottle Farm are offering their ferments (kimchi and sauerkraut)  and they’ll have loads of onions, some fresh veggies, and will be giving out lots of info for their up coming season. They are also having fun with a “guess the # of beans” competition to win a $100 value farm share! Birkeland Farm wants you to know they will have grass fed beef , all cuts and they are taking reservations for shares later on in 2018. They are out out of whole chickens until late May, but do have some hindquarters left. Grano Bakery bought all their whole chickens for chicken salad! Yup,they are doing a lunch service now at the Bakery and will be back at the market starting in May.

Coming this week…fresh sole, cod rock fish, plus crab, clams and clam chowder and crab cakes….from Wild Oregon.

Ah-Nuts! (new last market) are back and starting at our market on Saturday is Tighty Whitey Soap & Candle Co. with their line of no-fuss, all-natural soaps and body products and eco-friendly soy wax candles. As Iron Sharpens Iron is back…so bring those knives and tools! Victoria with the Camelina oils is back too, as is Thomas and Sons Distillery and Trails End Spirits. 35 vendors this week and close to 40 vendors next market day, Feb 3rd.
