Welcome winter market season!
We’ve had a week off to allow our farms and vendors a market break before launching into a new season and we’re excited to return this Saturday.
Winter is a perfect opportunity to stock up on nutrient dense produce and farm direct groceries, especially when the season is abundant with tons of greens, root veggies, storage crops, chicories, apples, pears, quince, nuts and so much more.
What does “Farm Direct” actually mean, you might wonder. Here at the market, we use that term a lot. Farm Direct means the food you’re purchasing at the market came directly from the farm it was grown or raised on. Farm Direct removes intervening distributors and retailers. Farm direct means fresh. It means local. It means the person you are buying food from on Saturdays are the ones who grew or made it.
You can also find this concept with our prepared foods and bakers. Fokattia Artisanal Baking and Small Baking Company source their flours from nearby Camas Country Mills, a mill that sources whole grains grown right in the Willamette Valley and grinds into healthy flours. Joanna at Small Baking regularly shops from our produce vendors for all her fruit and vegetables used in her baking. Diana of Diana’s Delights sources all of her fruit from our market vendors, turning them into the amazing jams and jellies she’s known for!
Nikki Guererro of famed, Hot Mama Salsa purchases the ingredients for her renowned salsas from local farms right within our valley while Bart from The Pie Guy uses fruit and berries, he’s purchased directly from local growers where he bakes in North Plains.
Speaking of The Pie Guy, we’re excited to welcome him back to the market for winter season, in addition to Foglia Pasta, Bornholm Farm, House of Spain, Spice Pilgrim, Storybook Farm, Maggy’s Farm and Hot Mama Salsa!
We hope you will consider the market first when shopping this season. And as you consider gift giving don’t forget our talented local artisans that grace our market with their goods, such as soaps, candles, hand turned wooden wares, hand crafted jewelry and fiber arts. Not sure what to gift? The market sells gift tokens that can be used on any item in the market! Come to the info booth for details.
Stay tuned for details on our upcoming Harvest and Holiday markets. It’s always a festive time with live music, complimentary hot cider and POP kid’s activities. It’s a celebration as our farms culminate a rigorous season of growing with storage crops and winter favorites.
Don’t forget we open one hour later during the winter season, at 10am. Find us this Saturday from 10am-2pm on the campus of Clackamas Community College here in Oregon City. We are located in Green Lot 1, next to the Horticulture Dept, off the corner of S Beavercreek Rd and Clairmont Drive.
See you at the market! |
