It’s Market Week!

Since we’re on our winter schedule, we look forward to market days more than usual for a chance to stock up and replenish our groceries to carry us through the next 2 weeks. We appreciate both our vendors and customers coming to market, no matter the weather, to support our local economy and small businesses.

This week you will find close to 60 vendors in attendance, offering everything from fresh winter produce to freshly roasted coffee beans.

OSU Extension, as part of their Food Hero program, has put together some both useful and beautiful gardening calendars! These are available at no charge for our SNAP customers. When you’re at the Info booth on Saturday, make sure to pick one up. They’re chock full of useful tips for what to plant when, kid’s projects and even a seasonal guide to Oregon’s produce season. It’s perfect to have in time for our annual Seed Swap scheduled for March 18th!

Yet another reason to shop locally for your fresh food. Thanks to our farms that raise happy hens, the market is grateful to have a robust supply of eggs, which can be tricky at this time of year since it’s cold and dark.

RJ Farms is home to some very happy hens offering plenty of pasture to roam and forage around the farm. RJ’s provides warm housing at night, safe from predators and their flock can enjoy what it truly means to be pasture raised. Art and Stacey let their girls retire on their farm as well.

If you’ve tried true farm fresh eggs you will notice that bright yellow – gold hue in the yolk, unlike most in groceries. This is due to healthy feed and living environments that offer plenty of fresh air and freedom to forage for all the snacks chickens love to feast on!

This week RJ Farms, Lady Lane Farm and Storybook Farm will all have eggs. You can be assured that their hens are raised in the best of conditions!
