What’s in Season at the Market?

By 12 September 2024

The mornings are chillier, and the leaves are starting to change.

It’s a beautiful season to shop the market and we will miss these late summer delights during the cold of January. As the days shorten summer harvests will begin to wane as new fall crops take preeminence.

This week we’re excited to welcome back our two fiber artists, Joining Yarns and Compass Moon Creations. Stock up on sustainable yarns for those fall projects and start thinking ahead to cozy season by shopping Joining Yarn’s rich collection of hand knitted hats and gloves.

Fall also signals the time to get your season perennials in. Green Seed Nursery is back this Saturday with a wide selection of Certified Naturally Grown plants from their farm in Canby. We’re thrilled for their return and after chatting with Austin and Emily, you will be inspired to plant for fall! Offering a wealth of knowledge and excellent varietals Green Seed Nursery is an incredible resource for garden enthusiasts.

A reminder: Our winter market season is quickly approaching and will begin on November 9th at 10am (we start one hour later from November through April). Our winter bookmarks will be available at our September 21st market (originally we said Sept 14th).

Find us this Saturday from 9am-2pm on the campus of Clackamas Community College’s GREEN LOT 1 here in Oregon City. We are located off the corner of S Beavercreek Rd and Clairmont Drive next to Clairmont Hall

TriMet Bus Line 32 stops next to our market as well.

See you at the market!

We love that melons are still in season! So far, we’re anticipating availability through the end of the month. Don’t wait to purchase them, just in case. Revel in late summer’s bounty by stocking up on sweet corn, which is so versatile and can be added to practically any dish and the delightful peppers which continue to fill farmers booths. Berries are still here as are stone fruits so make sure you get your fill before the season changes. Have you seen the beautiful table grapes at RJ Farms? These are a must purchase for fall snacking.

This week will be the last of the season for Ron of Pheasant’s Eye Farm. A market favorite, Ron is loved by all and looks forward to attending every season. Send him off with well wishes and buy up all his produce so he can go home with an empty truck. Ron will return in the spring with his infamous asparagus. For the next few months, he will be traveling throughout Columbia for a much-needed respite. This Saturday he will have the last of his season’s stone fruits, fall berries and lots of corn.

Fall in Love with Fall: Apples and Pears!

Welcome back OSU Extension Master Preservers! Are you ready to learn more about preserving apples and pears? This week the team returns with valuable resources to support you in your fall preservation projects. Fridge/freezer thermometers will also be available at no cost while supplies last.
OSU will offer a fun apple word search project for our Power of Produce families to complete together.
POP families that complete the word search will receive a 5.00 market token to use for market purchases (tokens limited to 50 families).
