The Bells are Ringing!

By 28 August 2025

School bells aren’t the only thing ringing,

so are the BELL peppers! Here at the market, we’re rejoicing in the arrival of this much-anticipated crop. In addition to bell peppers, other pepper varieties such as Jimmy Nardellos, Sweet Reds, Padrons, Jalapenos, Poblanos, Italian Sweets, Habaneros and more are filling up farm booths in a dizzying array of color.

That’s the fun of shopping farmers markets, trying new varieties you wouldn’t otherwise see, thanks to the ingenuity and creativity of our farmers and their seed sourcing. Flavor profiles range from mild, sweet or spicy and the colors alone evoke a sense of inspiration! You can find plenty of choices at all of our vegetable farmer booths this Saturday.

This week we’re welcoming back Full of Life farm. Ryan’s soil fertility comes from organic matter and plant-based composts. He specializes in fall/ winter vegetables.  After this week’s heat, it’s hard to image anything cool weather related but our farmers have fall and winter crops growing!

Check out our newsletter for a vendor spotlight, who will be in attendance and more.

Find us this Saturday from 9am-2pm in GREEN Lot 1 on the campus of Clackamas Community College in Oregon City.

VENDOR SPOTLIGHT: FARRAH FARMS
Zack Cooper of Farrah Farms knows the value of locally grown produce. As a passionate chef who firmly believes in cooking with the seasons and sourcing from local farms, it makes sense his path led him towards a farm of his own. Located in Molalla’s farmland, Zack stewards the land with a regenerative approach, protecting the earth by nourishing the soil, plants and natural habitats.

Some of our market staff had the opportunity to visit Zack and Scott at their farm lovingly named, Farrah Farms, an ode to the real MVP. Farrah is a rescued 13-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier and is considered the CEO of the entire operation!  Some of their specialties include year-round salad mixes, edible flowers, microgreens and unique, seasonal vegetables. This fall Zack will debut his latest addition, winter chicories!

We meandered through lush rows of summer crops, amazed by the abundance, crop placement and rotation methods. In addition to growing diversified vegetables, we spotted plenty of rows filled with Zinnia’s, sunflowers, herbs and dahlias. Have you seen his bouquets on market days? Bees have a hey day at Farrah Farms. As they flew between alternating rows of veggies and flowers, we saw pollination in action.

Not only does Farrah Farms sell produce at Oregon City and Montavilla Farmers Markets every weekend year-round, but they also offer a robust CSA program. You can also find their produce on Portland restaurant menus such as Normandie, and plenty more.

We are grateful for Farrah Farms and their commitment to feeding both the earth and their community!

MARKET T-SHIRT SALE
We’re having a sale on our short-sleeved market t-shirts! Regularly 25.00 we’re dropping them down to 20.00 so we can make room for our new winter hoodies! All sales go to support market operations and programming so make sure you stop by our Information Booth on Saturday and take a look.
