Supporting Local Farmers is Always in Season

By 27 June 2024

Stock up on market bounty before the long weekend.

With the 4th of July weekend coming up, many will have a longer weekend. Make sure to pick up all your ingredients if you’re grilling, sipping, heading to the beach or planning to staycation.

Summer squash, cucumbers and cauliflower are coming in while we bid au revoir to Asparagus and Snap Peas. The berries are so sweet and delicious! You can expect to see more blueberries and raspberries this week.

The list of food in season is too numerous to list but here in Oregon, we’re ready for it. Our farm stalls are bursting with the fresh flavors of summer so bring your shopping totes and stock up. Locally grown food lasts longer than grocery store options due to less transport time between harvests

We also have live music from The Noted and POP kids will be working on a veggie preparation activity.

Don’t forget your furry friends as we approach the 4th of July and the presence of fireworks. Both PowWow4BowWow and Healthy Roots Hemp will be at the market with treats and calming CBD to help anxious pups.

Read on for a vendor spotlight, upcoming events and attending vendors this Saturday. Stay up to date with the market by following us on Instagram @oregoncityfarmersmarket and don’t forget to share our market updates with others.

You can find us every Saturday from 9am-2pm at Clackamas Community College’s GREEN LOT 1 here in Oregon City. We are located off the corner of S Beavercreek Road and Clairmont Drive.

See you at the market!

VENDOR SPOTLIGHT!

Meet Tre-Fin Day Boat Tuna! Tre Fin prides itself on sustainable fishing practices and joins us at the market every Saturday. Tre-Fin Day Boat Seafood uses a unique model of fishing to provide alternatives to the practices of the conventional fishing industry. By catching fish one at a time from healthy populations of fish in regional waters, the small Ilwaco, WA-based operation minimizes bi-catch and prevents overfishing, while bringing their catch back within 24 hours to be processed in their own facility.

Tre-Fin supplements their catch with fish from local, like-minded fishers who use the same Day Boat protocols. Knowing that it costs more to fish using these sustainable practices, Tre-Fin pays their local partners a higher price for fish. As one of just a few producers who control the entire process—from catching, to hand-cutting and flash-freezing, to distributing directly to the customer—Tre-Fin believes that a small fleet operating with 100% traceability can change the fishing industry.

Find Tre-Fin each week next to Scratch Meats and Wild Roots Farm and check out their fresh rotating seafood varietiesThey also have vacuum sealed albacore tuna, making it perfect for an easy take and go option.

Mark your calendars for our next cooking demo scheduled on Saturday, July 6th at 10am. We’re excited to welcome Chef Mia of WildSpice Gourmet back to the market with a fresh, seasonal dish. Chef Mia will be highlighting hazelnuts from Squirrelly Jane, plus zucchini and herbs from our farmers. Watch the demo, enjoy some samples and pick up a recipe to make your own. The market will have all the ingredients!
A reminder for WIC participants. The WIC office will be at the market THIS SATURDAY with farm direct checks. Their booth will be located next to our Market Information stall. Those who have SNAP benefits can run their card for up to a 20.00 match to purchase additional fruits, veggies and plant starts!
