Stock up for St Patrick’s Day!

By 14 March 2019

We’re all Irish in mid-March right? Wear green to the Market this Saturday and we’ll post a pic of you on Facebook, plus you’ll not get a pinch! Every day is a celebration of local food at the farmers market, and this Saturday is no different with the added fun of saluting our friends across the ‘pond’.

It’s Pi Day today! Pick up yours this Saturday…from The Pie Guy ofcourse.

Lot’s of ‘greens’ on the farmers tables this week. From Sun Love farm we’ll have mustard greens, mizuna salad mix, raapini, hakurei salad turnips cilantro, plus limited supply of collards, chard, cabbage, and kale, RJ Farms will have potatoes, onions as well as kale and chard too.  Brown Bottle Farm will have salad mix plus their oyster mushrooms. If you are interested in growing your own they’ll have information at the booth about their Oyster Mushroom Cultivation Workshop coming up soon.

Putting the ‘fun’ in Fungi…Brown Bottle Farm!

Fisher Ridge Farm will have plenty choices for a celebratory dinner: Bone-in Butt Pork Roast $6/pound, Bone-in Pork Chops $6/package (2/package,) Boneless Sirloin Chops $7/package (2/package), Pork Tenderloin $8/pound. This recipe for Irish Stew uses Guinness, but any stout beer would be good too. (Don’t tell the Irish tho!)  Mushrooms  would be a tasty addition and make a richer stew. https://www.daringgourmet.com/irish-beef-guinness-stew/             We have plenty of mushrooms now in the market, from Brown Bottle Farm and Mindfull Mushrooms. Need an immune boost? Mindful Mushrooms have just developed a dual extracted mushroom blend tincture of Reishi, Turkey Tail, and Chaga.  They will also have a sale on their Reishi mushroom powder: buy one get another half off.

Don’t forget that an easy way to elevate almost any dish from good to great is by combining it with a great condiment such as Thrive Sauces. Their special hot sauces are all-purpose condiments. They are spicy and sweet with a bit of heat. They are creamy, but vegan, and won’t over power. They are an “everything sauce”  that you can dip, slather or spread onto your plates. 3 different types and levels of heat.  I caught one guy buying a whole BOX of them last market!

                 CH Woodcraft is back!

34 vendors this week, including returning vendors. CH Woodworking (Carl) is back for the spring and summer, so is Belamy Leather Goods. We had hoped to have fresh flowers and plants but those cold, snowy February/early March days have slowed everything down, next Market, March 30th (Seed Swap) we’ll see them for sure! Big Yellow Taxi is playing in the music tent, Cafe de Crepe and Sara’s Tamales are serving up hot food and grab a coffee with Double Jump Coffee Roasters and take some home with you too. Remember your re-useable bags and pick up some cloth produce bags at the Info Booth ($1 suggested donation to help buy more fabric). Let’s Ditch the Plastic in 2019!

See you on March 30th for the Seed Swap Market!
