Squirrell Away for Fall

By 14 September 2023

As morning clouds give way to sunny afternoons, we’re reminded of the changing seasons.

Summer is coming to a close, which means it’s time to prepare for the fall and winter months. Our farmers are in fall planting mode while still harvesting late summer produce.

Berries and stone fruits are still here but apple and pear varieties are slowly taking their place.  Late season tomatoes are bursting with flavor and colorful peppers fill our farmer’s baskets. You can smell the pungent fresh herbs before you’ve reached a farmer’s stall, drawing us into a sensory experience.

Root veggies will begin to take front and center stage along with delicious squash, perfect for roasting. We’re in that unique phase of Oregon produce where we can enjoy fresh sliced peaches from Kiyokawa Orchards for breakfast and sauteed collard greens from Farm D’ICI for dinner.

One might even consider pulling out a crock pot and slow cooking a roast from Martson Farm or grilling up some sausages from Campfire Farms. A great time saving strategy for busy fall schedules.

If you’re finding yourself in the food preservation mode, make sure you stop by our Information Booth for resources thanks to Oregon State University’s Extension Services. We have some handy guides and contact information for you.

And, as you prepare your yard or garden for a new season, our friends at OSU Master Gardeners will be here through the end of October with plenty of resources to keep your yards healthy and thriving.

Some of our vendors are bidding adieu to the season since their harvest is coming to a close, such as Fulton Farms. Read on for updated information, plus reminders on our upcoming market move and our highlight on a popular market snack, roasted nuts!

You can find us at the corner of Kaen and Beavercreek Roads (here in Oregon City) from 9am-2pm until October 28th before we move to our new location on November 4th.

See you at the market!

As a reminder, our market is scheduled to move to our new home at Clackamas Community College beginning with winter market on Nov 4th at 10am!

We will be located at S Beavercreek Road and Clairmont Drive, next to the Horticulture Dept and CC Volunteers in Medicine, a mere 5 minutes from our current location. The market will be offering plenty of directional signs to help you navigate the campus, making our location easy to find.

  • Ample parking.
  • Excellent walkability.
  • Convenient Tri Met bus depot and stops on campus.
  • Multiple entrances to the college.

Make sure to pick up your winter season bookmarks at the Information Booth!

Squirrel away for fall with Squirrelly Jane’s Hazelnuts. Grown in Aurora and Certified Organic, you can purchase various jarred sizes of hazelnuts, roasted or unroasted, creamy hazelnut butters and trail mixes.
Mary Clair is here the first and 3rd Saturdays each month so plan accordingly to prevent running out!
Sweet, savory or a combo of both, Pilgrim’s Roasted Nutz’ offers a wide variety of freshly roasted nuts in delicious flavors. You will want to try their caramelized buttered pecans! The Pilgrim family hails from North Plains and can be found in a variety of farmers markets throughout the State. You can find them between The Hummus Stop and Lee’s Garden each market day for the perfect fall snack.
