Squirrel Away For Fall

By 15 September 2021

As morning clouds give way to sunny afternoons, we’re reminded of the changing seasons.

Summer is coming to a close, which means its time to prepare for the fall and winter months. Our farmers are in fall planting mode while still harvesting late summer produce.

Berries are still here but apple and pear varieties are quickly taking their place.  Late season tomatoes are bursting with flavor and colorful peppers fill our farmer’s baskets.

Root veggies will begin to take front and center stage along with delicious squash, perfect for roasting.

Each week we are going to see larger displays of pumpkins and the smells of fresh roasting nuts in the market will beckon the thought of warm meals and cozy blankets!

We can find comfort in the beauty of the season and autumnal colors. While it’s difficult to predict what our colder season will bring us, the thought of slowing down can be a relief for many.

We hope you will join us as we move through the seasons. In case you forget, our market is year round which means you can enjoy fresh  locally grown foods and produce, even in December! Mark your calendars now and plan to join us for our Harvest Market on November 20th and our Holiday Market on December 18th.

Don’t forget to stop by our info booth for a winter schedule bookmark so you can be reminded of our winter market dates!

Find us this Saturday from 9-2 at 2051 Kaen Rd (corner of Kaen and Beavercreek Roads) in Oregon City.

See you at the market!

Since we’re talking about fall it seems only appropriate to share about our wonderful nut vendors at the market.

29 Kettle Confectionery roasts small batch nut varieties right on site at the market. A popular favorite, their Sweet and Salty Pecans can be smelled throughout the entire market evoking thoughts of harvest meals.

Some fun facts about 29 Kettle:

All of their nuts are vegan and contain zero amounts of oil, butter or any other animal product.

They are completely Gluten Free.

Each recipe only contains 4 ingredients.

Whether you want to top them on some Radicchio as a salad show stopper, add to roasted squash or sweet potatoes, eat on their own or sprinkle on ice cream, you will find their flavor and crunch adds the perfect finishing touch.

Find 29 Kettle at the market each week.

Squirrel away for fall with Squirrelly Jane’s Hazelnuts. Grown in Aurora and Certified Organic, you can purchase various jarred sizes of hazelnuts, roasted or unroasted, creamy hazelnut butters and trail mixes.
Mary Clair is here the first and 3rd Saturdays each month so plan accordingly to prevent running out!

We have exciting news for our SNAP customers who receive a food benefit!

Thanks to generous grants from The Farmers Market Fund, we are now able to match 20.00 in Double Up Foods Bucks. Previously it has been a 10.00 match so we are excited for the opportunity to provide additional funds for fresh produce!

As an added bonus, thanks to our Metro Grant from the City of Oregon City, our market offers an additional 10.00 match. This means, Snap food benefit customers can receive up to a 30.00 match for every 20.00 spent!

*Please note the 20.00 Double Up Food Buck benefit only applies to EBT Food Benefit customers, not EBT Cash customers. We are sad to report the USDA has discontinued their allowances at this time. Stay tuned for updates as work is being down to provide options.

Stop by the info booth for all the latest info and to run your card.
