Spring really is around the corner!

By 17 January 2019

It will soon be spring and next week it will feel like it. This warmer winter is waking the plants up early so look for more produce variety in the Market next month. Lee’s Flowers called tonight to say they will be back in March with the first daffodils (possibly as early as March 2nd).  Unlike the first winter market we moved to the summer site, this winter looks like an easy ‘weather’ season. Having said that of course I’m probably jinxing it:)

We have a full market on Saturday even though several of our regular vendors are out this week. Ah-Nuts, 2 Sisters Bakery and The Pie Guy are all off for one reason or another, and will be back next month. but we will introduce new businesses and welcome regulars we haven’t seen for a while. Wild Oregon Seafood is looking to be back in April or May at the latest. So….back this weekend is Culture Aromatics, now known as Oomph Cooking Blends   http://oomphcooking.com/. It’s a better name as their dehydrated veggies really do add ‘oomph’ to any thing you are cooking.  Back too is 503 Distilling with their NEW cocktail, La Vida Mocha (rum infused with orange peel, organic Mexican chocolate, and Riff coffee). They will be sampling it HOT and cold on Saturday for the very first time! Stone Circle Cider is back with ‘English-style’ hard cider made from local apples and Thomas and Sons are back with their innovative spirits are crafted in-house, from a vacuum distillation of kombucha in their distillery in SE Portland. Tighty Whitey is back with fragrant soaps and candles. Plus we have a couple of new crafters, one working in fiber and one in wood.

New this week is Thrive Sauces Co. offering 3 different hot sauce condiments. They are creamy, but vegan, dip-able, spreadable and NOT meant to hurt you! They are great on anything you wish to use hot sauce on and can also be used as a marinade, dip, dressing or the sauce of your dish! Plus they are Gluten-free and Non-GMO and of course….locally made in PDX!  https://www.thrivesauceco.com/

We may not have flowers right now, but Mindful Mushrooms sure have pretty baskets…tasty and healthful too.

Kiyokawa Orchards had a problem last Market with the delivery of fresh produce. Happily we should have a full selection of delicious fruits this week !

We are very concerned about our SNAP (Foodstamps) customers with the government shut down.  If you or anyone you know has these benefits please let them know that their February benefits will be on their card by Friday January 18th, and that it is important they budget carefully through February. Hopefully the March benefits will be issued as usual, our fingers are crossed.. The Market can help those trying to stretch their budgets yet eat healthier. We offer a $6 match every market day. SNAP customers buy $6 worth of tokens from us at the Info Booth and we issue them with $6 in $2 coupons. These coupons are good for fresh produce and mushrooms, and cut herbs. Please help us to get out this info.

Cafe de Crepe Food Truck is back with both sweet and savory crepes and Sara’s Tamales has added to her menu a wonderful Pozole soup, healthy and warming on a cold day!  Big Yellow Taxi play in the music booth, that plus Double Jump’s coffee makes it a great morning already! See you there:)
