Sauerkraut ,Tomato Tasting and Hound Me Downs!
Get fermented this Saturday with NW Ferments! Join the NW Ferments gals for an on-going Sauerkraut demo, 10.30am-12.30pm…or while supplies last. Learn about vegetable fermentation, and make your own jar of kraut to take home and ferment (while supplies last). It’ll be a gas!
Tomato-tasting, vote for your fave! Our annual Tomato Taste Test means you get to taste tons and tons of heirloom tomatoes, orange, yellow, gold, red, pink, black from the local farms. Vote for your fave and we’ll award the winning farm who grew it with a Certificate! But if peppers are your ‘thing’ then Coyote Ridge Farm reports it tons. Poblano (good for stuffing) spicy Serranos, Italian Sweet peppers too.
Kiyokawa Orchards is sending the first Dolgo crab apples, (crabapples, and particularly their cores and seeds, are naturally very high in pectin. Simmer two pounds of crabapples with three cups of water for about 30 minutes, then mash and strain — the result can be used like you would use liquid pectin in a recipe to set any kind of fruit jelly or jam. They are also really pretty in a ‘Fall’ vignette! ) They will also have more apples: Gala, Gravenstein, Ginger Gold, Pristine, Sansa and gorgeous pears: Bartlett, Red Sensation, Starkcrimson this week. Plus table grapes for the first time. But there are still plenty of peaches and a small amount of cherries from this farm and others.
65 vendors this week….the site is full! High 5 Cup Bop is a popular hot food vendor and this week is Jin’s last. A change in work is causing him to leave farmers markets, stop by and wish him well! Big Yellow Taxi is playing 10-1.30…… and it will be cooler, yay! 🙂
