Pumpkins And Peppers!

By 30 September 2020

October is our last month of summer market!

It’s hard to believe we are in the final weeks of summer market. It’s been one for the record books in terms of all the challenges our community has faced.

While we are in the process of saying our goodbyes to the season, we are welcoming a new one and there is no better place than the market to do so.

This week you have the opportunity to see the mingling of the seasons. The last of the corn, tomatoes and peppers line farmer’s tables while displays of colorful pumpkins, squash and gourds make their fall debut.

Come take advantage of the rich bounty available to us.

See you at the market!

We are happy to welcome our newest seasonal vendor, Bittersweet Springs, located in Canby.. Chuck and Heather Slocum planted 20 varieties of pumpkins and gourds in what Chuck describes as a “Pandemic Planting”. While sheltering in place due to COVID, the Slocums planted more than usual but didn’t expect such a large harvest. This worked out well for us. Come check out their beautiful display at the main entrance of the market!
RJ Farms has beautiful red peppers right now, crisp and full of flavor. Now is the time to stock up because they won’t be here for long. Roasting and freezing peppers awards you the pleasure of fresh flavor in the cold winter months. Great to add to a romesco sauce, chili, tapenades or as a base for a fun new recipe.

Here is an easy recipe to use when considering roasting and freezing peppers!

Thanks to the Farmers Market Fund and the Oregon City Metro Enhancement Grant, we are able to match up to 20.00 additional dollars each market day for our SNAP recipients. Make sure to stop by the info booth so we can run your card for your tokens and match. The market is a great place to use your SNAP benefit and receive extra funds!
