Last Month Of Summer Market – Here’s What You Can Find!

By 7 October 2020

We only have 5 Saturdays left before we officially begin our winter market.

As summer season transitions to winter, the ground is beginning to release a collective breath of relief. It’s been a hard season, to say the least. And yet in the midst of rain, fires, smoke damage and a pandemic, the soil gave us nourishment. After this year I certainly won’t take it for granted. I find I possess an even deeper respect for our earth and our growers.

Some of our farmers are done for the season but thankfully have plans to return for our winter market.  We will also have some new additions to welcome to our market family. In the meantime, there is plenty of late summer produce to enjoy. Now is the time to reap the benefits!

Make sure to stop by the info booth and pick up one of our market’s winter season bookmarks to put on your fridge or bulletin board. They make an easy reference for our scheduled dates.

As always, thank you for supporting our local farms, makers and artisans.

See you at the market!

This season is such a fun time to shop farmers markets because the variety is so rich and bountiful. Anna and Ryan of Brown Bottle Farm have fresh ginger for sale and the flavor is pungent, rich and delicious.
Not to be outdone, Lobster Mushrooms are here from both Brown Bottle Farms and Mindful Mushrooms. The days are fast approaching for some hearty stews and broths. Did you know that mushrooms make for an easy meat substitute? It’s a great way to get healthy protein while enjoying a meaty, woodsy flavor.
Here is a recipe for a creamy Mushroom Stroganoff from the blog, Damn Delicious. Have fun playing with a variety of mushrooms to amp up the flavor profile. You can make it vegan by using vegan butter (Earth Balance or Miyokos), veggie stock, vegan sour cream (or almond milk) and nutritional yeast in place of the parmesan cheese.

Fans of Pam’s Pickled Products are in luck this weekend! Pam and Paul are back at the market for  two more weeks so now is the time to stock up on your favorites. This week’s selections include non alcoholic Bloody Mary Beans and Holiday Sweet Pickled Red Onions! This is a great time to consider some early holiday shopping as well. Pam’s jarred goodness make fantastic gifts and all of her ingredients are sourced locally from our market’s farms.
There’s still time to get that late season corn. Lady Lane Farms has their American Beauty variety available which is incredibly sweet and juicy. Great for freezing to use in the winter months
We need help from our SNAP recipients! Many have experienced the benefit of the Double Up Food Bucks program. This is a grant graciously distributed by our friends at the Farmers Market Fund. By completing the survey you can provide vital information in order to secure future funding for this amazing program. The survey is super quick and easy. Would you assist us? Thank you for your help and support!
Are you ready? Winter Market is coming and we couldn’t be more excited for a fresh line up of new and returning vendors. We are grateful to operate as a year round market which allows our customers to take advantage of fresh food throughout the entire year.
We will change to an every other week schedule plus open 1 hour later (10am – 2pm).
Even though COVID has changed our operating procedures in significant ways we still look forward to an air of festivity as we approach the holidays. Stay tuned for details and updates as we approach our opening date.
