Jackie Hammond-Williams Last Market As Market Manager
Help Us Thank Jackie on Saturday!
We, the Board of the Oregon City Farmers Market, are taking the unusual step of writing a blog post of our own this week. But it is an unusual kind of week. Jackie is stepping down as market manager and into retirement after this Saturday.
Over the years, countless individuals, organizations and businesses have contributed their time, effort and resources in support of our farmers market, but no one has had a greater impact on its development and success than Jackie.
Given the current situation, we aren’t able to celebrate in the way we had hoped to and planned to, at least for now. Instead, we are leaving it up to each and every one coming to pick up orders and those volunteering at the market this Saturday to express their gratitude to this remarkable woman who, 12 years ago, took the concept of a farmers market in Oregon City and grew it to be an incubator for small business, a community gathering spot and a thriving marketplace.
Jackie’s boundless imagination created the POP Club for Kids, copied and emulated nationwide. She’s been a solid advocate for local sustainable food, local farmers, and meeting the nutritional needs of seniors and people with low incomes. She goes above and beyond at every opportunity always thinking outside the box as challenges arise. And as the face of the market has made our voice heard at city council meetings, the board of county commissioners, neighborhood organizations, countless schools and churches, anywhere and everywhere – bookmarks in hand.
So, let’s say thank you this Saturday to Jackie, and to her husband Tim, an essential and irreplaceable contributor himself, as they create the next chapter in their lives.
Here are some ideas:
• Put a sign in your car’s window with your good wishes.
• Drop a card at the pick-up booth on your way through.
• Honk your horn and yell, “Thanks for all of this, Jackie!” or another meaningful sentiment. (You’ll have your mask on, so yell loudly!)
• Be creative: Think of a way to send Jackie off with all the warm fuzzy feelings she deserves from all of us.
Thank you and we will see you at the Market!
