Lend your ear, corn is here!
The corn is abundant and delicious at the market. Sweet and perfect for preserving, now is the time to get your fill! We’re at the time of year where our farmers are shucking a fresh ear at the market and eating it straight off the cob. That’s a sign of good flavor and texture!
An easy way to enjoy corn year-round is to freeze it. Shuck your ears and place in boiling water. Boil for 5 min. Drain and plunge immediately into an ice bath until fully cooled. Cut off the kernels lengthwise and place into gallon FREEZER storage bags. Layer bags in the freezer and enjoy during the frosty days of winter. OSU Master Preservers shared this tip with our staff at the market last Saturday.
Freestone juicy peaches, in addition to loads of stone fruits are available this week. Tomatoes are showing off with lots of Heirloom varieties to enjoy and we saw our first glimpse of colorful bell peppers dotting farm stalls last Saturday. Steward’s Valley Farm brought poblano peppers that are perfect for stuffing or roasting. Forest Edge Vineyard’s figs have arrived, plus Kiyokawa Family Orchards brought their first harvest of pears.
We hope you will join us this Saturday from 9am-2pm at Clackamas Community College’s GREEN LOT 1 here in Oregon City. We are located off the corner of S. Beavercreek Rd and Clairmont Drive next to the Horticulture Dept.
If you’re taking the bus, TriMet Line 32 stops next to our market. Customer parking can be found in Green Lot 2, Brown Lot, Blue Lots 1 & 2, plus Douglas Loop.
See you at the market! |
