It’s Cherry Season!

By 13 July 2023

The cherries are everything but ‘pitiful’ at the market.

Excuse the pun, but it’s true! We are in peak cherry season and the varieties are astounding. Fulton Family Farms offer choices such sweet Chelans, Black Pearls and the popular yellow firm fleshed Rainiers. Kiyokwaya Family Orchards is back with their French varietal Montmorency Pie Cherries and Attika’s which are juicy with a slightly spicy flavor. The balance of sweetness and acidity makes for a perfect snacking cherry.

And if you’re curious about health benefits, try a handful before bed since they’re armed with natural melatonin! Plus, they’re excellent for heart health, recovery after exercise, and may lower both blood pressure and cholesterol.

Our farms are laden with this delicious stone fruit. Not sure which variety to choose? Here at the market, we love to buy some of each! As always, our farmers are the best go to for flavor advice so make sure to ask! Cherries are also available at RJ Farms, Pheasant’s Eye, South Barlow and Albeke’s.

We’re happy to report Chio PDX Pistachio Cream, Bean Bar Tofu, Rock Creek Romneys and Fink’s Fermented Foods are back this Saturday, while Fokattia Artisan Sourdough has the week off and will return on the 29th.

You can find us from 9-2 each Saturday at 2051 Kaen Rd (at the corner of Kaen and Beavercreek Roads) here in Oregon City.

See you at the market!

In addition to plenty of berries and stone fruits, the first summer tomatoes are increasing their presence on Saturday!
Here we are already, barreling into the summer, and enjoying everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer.

This summer Oregon City Farmers Market is participating in “Stay Rad, Stay Local,” a fun Portland area challenge to explore new-to-you local farmers’ markets. This is your chance to savor the flavor of summer by discovering new farmers, bakers, florists, and so much more.

Collect eight stamps/stickers from any of the 26 participating markets and then turn in your completed passport for a prize at the market of your choice. (The prizes will be different at every market!)

This challenge is open now until September 15, 2023. Use it as a staycation opportunity to explore your own city, find new favorites, and support small businesses!

Pick up your passport this Saturday at the Information Booth.

This week our Power of Produce kids will have the opportunity to participate in a “Guess the Herb” activity. We will have a selection of fresh herbs displayed with clues and kids will match the herb with the description. This is a great way for kiddos to learn about nature’s flavorful seasonings! Our thanks to Sun Love Farm and Wild Roots Farm for growing the herbs we will be using!
Kids ages 5-12 can sign up for Power of Produce. Each week at the market, kids can check in for a passport stamp and receive 2.00 in tokens for fruits and vegetables. Complete our activity and earn a 3rd token!
