EAR we go again! (we can’t resist corn puns!)

Corn season is here. It’s abundant, colorful and exceptionally flavorful. We’re at the time of year where our farmers are shucking a fresh ear at the market and eating it straight off the cob. That’s a sign of good flavor and texture and fresh local corn requires little adornment! Shop from RJ FarmsPheasant’s EyeFulton Family Farm and Earthly Harvest Farm.

An easy way to enjoy corn year-round is to freeze it. Shuck your ears and place in boiling water. Boil for 5 min. Drain and plunge immediately into an ice bath until fully cooled. Cut off the kernels lengthwise and place into gallon FREEZER storage bags. Layer bags in the freezer and enjoy during the frosty days of winter. OSU Master Preservers shared this tip with our staff at the market last Saturday.

Freestone juicy peaches, in addition to loads of stone fruits are available this week. Tomatoes are showing off with lots of Heirloom varieties to enjoy and we saw our first glimpse of colorful bell peppers dotting farm stalls last Saturday. Farrah Farms brought their first crop of Shishito peppers which are awesome for grilling. Forest Edge Vineyard’s  renowned figs arrivedplus Kiyokawa Family Orchards brought their first harvest of pears. Farm D’ICI has tons of Honeydew melon varietals that are the best we’ve ever tasted.

We have a special live music performance by Robert Meade this Saturday. Robert is playing a full set celebrating music by The Beatles. You may have seen Robert most recently at Oregon City’s Porch Fest and we’re excited to welcome him back to the market for the 4th year in a row.

We are located on the campus of Clackamas Community College’s GREEN LOT 1 here in Oregon City from 9am-2pm.

See you at the market!

POP CLUB FUN!

Ever wonder just how many seeds it takes to grow the food you eat at
the market? This weekend our POP kids are going to get the chance to find out! We’ll have a jar of popcorn kernels representing just how many seeds it took our farmer friends at Steward’s Valley to plant a 400 foot row of beets. If your Pop kid can guess it right, we have a few fun prizes in store! Make sure you come by and give your best guess!

Join us at our Field to Fork kitchen this Saturday for quick pickle recipes and samples! This is a great opportunity to pick up some easy cooking inspiration with take home recipes and ways to preserve this prolific summer crop.
