By 7 January 2016

2015-11-07 09.33.59Happy New Year…we’re back!!! With a bigger winter market, a great mix of vendors, terrific hot food, good coffee…and this Saturday fab live music too! Eating seasonally with local ingredients in January is possible!  Soups, stews and casseroles, using meats , root veggies, and wild mushrooms, a slice of cheese and a sip of red wine! Come to the market bring your shopping bag, let the market foods inspire you and go home with a full bag and ideas for a seasonal dish or two.

2015-12-19 10.19.09With approx. 35 vendors each winter market day and 55+ vendors during the summer, you’ll find us year-round on the parking lot at 2051 Kaen Rd, off Beavercreek Rd. Plenty of close parking too! During the winter we run every other Saturday through April, 10am-2pm. In May our regular weekly schedule starts up, through October, 9am-2pm.

Fresh local produce..coming to a table near you!

Fresh local produce..coming to a table near you!

Four local farms this week are bringing spinach, kale, radish, carrots, onions, miners lettuce, collards, turnips (purple top turnips fresh from the field are wonderful as an hors d’ oeuvre with balsamic vinegar or for those on a raw food diet) mizuna, arugula, broccoli, leeks, mustards and salad mix, hard and soft-neck garlic….and plenty of cabbage!  This over-looked vegetable is packed full of nutrition, and after a freeze, is sweeter with just a hint of pepper. Crisp and juicy in a slaw it’s also wonderful cooked on the stove top, tossed in oil with a clove of Pitkin Winterrowd Farms hardneck garlic. For first time this season farmer Tom will have large bulbs of long storage softneck garlic too. All the farmers will have a medley of squash including butternut, delicata and acorn. Try making sauerkraut this winter, with sweet, juicy winter cabbages it’s super easy, once you’ve found the right jar or crock to pack it in you’ll be making it all the time:  http://nourishedkitchen.com/homemade-sauerkraut/
