Celebrate National Farmers Market Week!

By 8 August 2024

Let’s celebrate National Farmers Market Week by learning more about our market!

We are continually grateful for our customer’s support and their belief in the importance of locally grown food. Thank you for faithfully shopping our market. By doing so, you are strengthening our local economy and farmer’s livelihoods!
In honor of National Farmers Market week, here’s some fun facts about our market:

1) Our robust Power of Produce kid’s nutrition program began right here in Oregon City, thanks to our now retired market manager, Jackie Hammond-Williams. Jackie designed a grant funded program which provides kids ages 5-12 an opportunity to learn about local food systems through a series of interactive activities.

Plus, kiddos can shop for fresh produce with market tokens. Because of Jackie’s vision, POP club has been adopted nationally, internationally and by the Farmers Market Coalition. POP continues to thrive at our market!

2) On average our farms only travel 15 miles to our market. Our closest farm (Sun Love) is 6 miles away!

3) We are a 501c3 Non-Profit organization. All donations made to our market are tax-deductible! Here’s a new user-friendly link to support our work Support Your Market – Oregon City Farmers Market (orcityfarmersmarket.com)

4) In 2023 our market disbursed 36,000 in SNAP dollars and 27,000 in Double Up Food Bucks to EBT recipients for the purchase of locally grown and made food. We are incredibly grateful for grant funding from The Farmers Market Fund to offer this program.

5) Oregon City Farmers Market is the only YEAR-ROUND farmers market in Clackamas County.

6) 66% of our customers travel to our market from other communities, such as Estacada, Mulino, Canby and Molalla.

7) We operate with 3 part time staff members and 1 full time director, in addition to a small but mighty team of volunteers

8) Our Mission is to bring together community, farmers, artisans and educators to celebrate, discover and promote healthy, local, sustainable food as an integral part of a resilient and thriving local economy.

To celebrate, this Saturday come to the Information Booth for a free raffle ticket. The winner will receive 20.00 in tokens to spend on anything in the market!

Find us each Saturday from 9am-2pm at Clackamas Community College’s GREEN LOT 1 here in Oregon City (off the corner of S Beavercreek and Clairmont Drive).

Customer parking can be found in Green Lot 2, Brown Lot, Blue Lots 1 & 2 and Douglas Loop OR bus routes 32 and 33.

Welcome back OSU Extension’s Master Preservers!

“Tis that time of year to savor the season and preserve the season. Looking for some guidance on how to preserve your apricots or zucchini? Whether you are new to home canning or an experienced vet, it is always important to start with tested recipes and follow research-based canning recommendations to ensure that the final product is safe to consume. Come by the OSU Extension booth located next to the Information booth and speak with the Master Food Preserver volunteers who can answer your questions on safe home canning methods, recommend resources, and set you up for success.”

VENDOR SPOTLIGHT – DON FELIPE FINE PRODUCTS
Don Felipe Fine Products specializes in Toluca style verde, rojo, chicken and plant-based tempeh chorizos. In 2012 owners Salud and Angie began producing their own artisan Mexican chorizo. After discovering most commercial brands of chorizo contained fillers and artificial ingredients, Don Felipe Products redefined what chorizo SHOULD be and set out to use only the highest quality, local ingredients. Sourcing from a small network of local farms, Don Felipe firmly believes in ingredient traceability to ensure a sustainable farm to table product.

With the support and partnership of the non-profit, Adelante Mujeres, Don Felipe Products began selling to the public at Forest Grove Farmers Markets. The rest is history. Salud and Angie have built their brand with sustainable methods and continue to provide exceptional chorizos to the Northwest and beyond, thanks to shipping options.

You can find Angie and the Don Felipe team on the 2nd Saturday each month at the market which means they are here this weekend, August 10th. Stock up while they’re here and don’t forget their plant-based options that provide a delicious meat free alternative.

Fun Fact! Don Felipe is named after Salud’s grandfather, a testament to the strength of family.

We are grateful to have this incredible vendor at our market!
