Big is the word this week!

By 20 June 2019

                 Cherries are here!

Now that the Solstice is behind us, we have reached the middle of the year, hard to believe that the days now get shorter….no!!! But it also means that the fields and hoophouses are now pumping out all the good stuff summer has to offer. Leone’s Farm is back this week for the season. Tina will have berries, including gooseberries, pie cherries, zucchini and cucumbers. RJ Farms is picking their greens beans, Farm D’Ici has sweet litle summer squash and plenty of Chinese cabbage and Sunlove has more sweet juicy cabbages, basil and carrots. Brown Bottle Farm are bringing the first….wait for it….tomatoes!! Profarm has cherries but it’s possibly the last week for their asparagus. The market is BIG this week and the selection of produce and products is BIG too, 75 canopies are going up!

The first green beans from RJ Farms this week.

Christina (Campfire Farms) reminded me this week how delicious and simple savory galettes are. I bet some of their pasture-raised pork sausage would be fab in one too! You can use almost any of the market’s wonderful veggies, just cook them first to get out excess moisture. Mushrooms are perfect mixed in too and we have plenty this week for Mindful Mushrooms and Brown Bottle Farm. This recipe calls for puff pastry, but I’ve also made them with plain and GF pastry (Bob’s Red Mills 1 to 1 GF flour and good butter). https://www.seriouseats.com/2019/05/how-to-make-savory-vegetable-galettes.html

The Bratwurst Truck is back this week. Housemade brats from an old family recipe.

Back this week: Ah Nuts, Oomph Cooking Blends (a ‘must’ in the pantry),Thrive Sauces, Beeing Kind (coconut and honey spreads, marinades), Massage Spa, Stillweather Spirits, DT Pottery, Tree Hugging Girl, Mad Sass Soaps, Pet Wants, Wandering Duck Wines, 503 Cocktials in a Can, Mindfull Mushrooms and the Altengartz Bratwurst food truck (with a new engine, the old one died on 205 early last Saturday). We have a completely full house infact. It’s the last week for Maggys Farm till August. Peppers, Basil and Winter Squash can still be planted, pick up some on Saturday!

Landia Skin Care, for women and men. Great nourishment for your skin and clean for the environment!

Landia Oreganics is always at the Market, but this week we have the creator and skin care magician, business owner back. Come and meet Kathy, her plant based skin care (including suncream and a full men’s line) of products are simply the best on your skin and all made right here in Oregon City in small batches. If you are interested in selling Landia’s products at our Market, let her know!

Geeks and Games (http://ocgeeksandgames.com/) is a very cool store in Oregon City featuring table-top board games and other fun stuff for the whole family. They are coming this week with magic tricks to teach the kids and a selection of cool summer-time fun games. The Feral Cat Coalition will have info on what to do about stray cats and kittens.  Kenny Lavitz is entertaining us in the music booth. Bring your bags, your coolers, shop till you drop, eat and relax listening to ‘funky blues’!

Get fresh mid-week. Download the Market’s mobile app and support these young farmers. Look on the App. for Brown Bottle Farm, Coyote Ridge Farm, Sun Love Farm, or Campfire Farms. Order before Monday 11pm. Pick up Wednesday at Oregon City Brewing Company (4-7pm).
