Beat The Heat With These Market Favorites

By 23 June 2021

Due to the extreme heat forecast, the market will be open from 8:30-12:30 for the safety of customers and vendors.

We appreciate your understanding with our early close on Saturday so we are going to open at 8:30 instead of 9 to help accommodate you!

With the increasing temperatures coming our way, we wanted to share our favorite market purchases for combating the hot weather. Read on for our list of hot weather must haves!

For your shopping comfort we will be offering hydration stations at the market so make sure to bring your water bottle. If you forget, we have you covered with biodegradable cups! We will also have a misting station to walk under for a bit of relief from the heat!

This week’s take a way POP activity is all about Bees! Make sure to stop by for your tokens and activity at the info booth.

A couple reminders to keep everyone safe in the heat.

  • Please leave your pets at home
  • Consider shopping in the morning hours
  • Stay hydrated by visiting one of our water stations
  • Take a walk under our water mister
  • Buy lots of fresh fruit and produce for extra hydration and nutrients

Our attending vendor list is subject to change, given the forecast. However, our farms will be here with plenty of fresh veggies and fruits so stock up with some healthy goodness for these hot days.

As always, we appreciate your support of our local farms, makers and growers!

See you Saturday!

Eating foods with a high water content are important for staying hydrated in the heat. Fresh berries can provide you an extra boost of energy when feeling lethargic and provide a healthy source of vitamins, fiber and antioxidant properties.

RJ Farms brought these Obsidian Blackberries last Saturday and will have more this weekend. Marionberries will be here in just a couple weeks! Raspberries and Blueberries are coming on board, as well.

For a cool snack, place some berries on a sheet pan and freeze them. They’re delicious as is, blended in a refreshing smoothie or added to an iced beverage.

Bing cherries are here! Chill until super cold and enjoy straight off the stem. Cherries are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, fiber and anti inflammatory compounds. Not only nutrient dense, they can improve sleep and brain function. You can find cherries this week from Pheasant’s Eye, RJ Farms and Albeke Farms.
4 Hearts Kombucha will be here with icy cold kombucha flavors, perfect for a hot day. Kombucha offers a wide array of health benefits, including rich antioxidants and healthy probiotics.
Eating lots of cool, leafy greens is a great way to stay hydrated because they contain so much water. Enjoy fresh in a variety of salads, smoothies or piled on a sandwich! Right now our farms have plenty of options to choose from, including mixed greens if you want to try a combination.
Keep cool with some soothing lavender. Lavish Lavender has luxurious facial mists, soaps and creams to keep you skin nourished and hydrated. Lavender is a calming agent to irritated skin and helps promote sleep. Hang a fresh bouquet in the shower or beside your bed. Diffuse Lavender essential oil in the heat of the day or enjoy some lavender simple syrup drizzled over fresh fruit or added to icy lemonade.

Healthy Roots has plenty of CBD based creams, oils and tinctures. Consider one of their bath bombs in a cool bath on a hot evening. It will help promote relaxation as you ease into those warm nighttime hours.

Goat Goddess has handmade goat’s milk soaps right now with fresh scents that remind one of a cool Oregon forest.

Eat ice cream this weekend! Make sure to take home convenient pints of freshly churned ice cream from local dairy, Lady Lane. Using all grass fed milk from their award winning herd of Jersey cows, this needs to be on your shopping list. Remember to bring a cooler for transport!
