Back to the Grind!

By 5 September 2024

As we return to school, routines and work schedules,

it’s easy to become overwhelmed with a new season. But at the market we’re rejoicing in all that late summer goodness that fills our vendor’s booths each week.

This week we are sharing ways to elevate breakfast and lunch routines. The market is a great place to implement new foods that are easy to go when you’re on a tight timeline. Speaking of back to the grind, did you know we have two coffee roasters that give a whole new meaning to local coffee? Read on for all the ‘buzz’ about coffee.

As we move into September, berries and stone fruits continue, along with every hot season crop you can imagine. From tomatillos to sweet corn to melons, it’s time to savor flavors before they’re gone. It’s a great time to consider preserving produce during these weeks of prolific harvest.

Apples and pears are beginning to appear, thanks to Kiyokawa Family Orchards and chillier mornings are making way for fall crops but it’s still the sweet spot as two seasons bump into each other. In terms of produce, this is what Oregon is known for.

Speaking of fall, don’t forget our market is YEAR-ROUND! As we prepare for a new season, we hope you will continue to make the market your local food destination. Our newest bookmarks and market dates are coming soon, and our Winter season will begin on November 9th at 10am.

Find us this Saturday from 9am-2pm in GREEN Lot 1 on the campus of Clackamas Community College in Oregon City. Easy access is available at the corner of S Beavercreek Road and Clairmont Drive.
Tri Met’s Bus Line 32 stops right next to our market.

See you soon!

Here’s the BUZZ on our market coffee roasters!

Each Saturday you can find Double Jump Coffee and Stewards Valley Farm sustaining market goers and early risers with freshly roasted coffee and espresso.

Located in Canby, Double Jump Coffee is known for their amazing pour-overs, brewed coffee and smooth cold brew options. Using beans that are ethical, direct trade and grown in high elevation from regions such as Brazil and Colombia, you can find both their beans and coffees (including Decaf) at the market each week. Find their coffee and beans during the week at Small Baking Company, as well.  Lauren and Sam roast their beans at their farm each week and pack in recyclable bags. They also offer amazing Chai and tea beverages plus nondairy milk options, such as Oat and Coconut milk. Find Sam and team each week ready with smiles to start your day.

Stewards Valley Farm not only offer delicious produce grown at their farm in Canby, they also roast their coffee beans every Sunday morning. Sourcing from family producers in regions such as Ethiopia and Guatemala, Taylor and Kailin use sustainable packaging with a glass jar exchange system, eliminating extra waste. They also offer coffee subscriptions in addition to their produce CSA subscriptions. Each Saturday you can find Taylor pulling espresso shots and hand crafting drinks such as lattes and cappuccinos.  Non-dairy milks are offered, plus coffee beverages are available as hot or iced.

Start your morning shopping with a visit to each or both of these vendors. We are so grateful to have them at our market.

Now that schedules are ramping up, don’t forget to pick up ingredients for easy breakfast and lunch prep.

Pair fresh granola from Simple Trail, yogurt from ONA or Kefir from Cottage Hill Dairy along with fresh berries from our farms for a delicious and healthy parfait.

Elevate your PB&J game with nut butter from Squirrelly Jane and jams from Diana’s Delights or Das My Jam. Honey lovers can check out T Bees Honey or Bany Bee. Spread on a hearty bread from Fokattia.

Easy snacks include freshly roasted nuts from Pilgrims Roasted Nutz’ or hazelnut lunch box mixes from Squirrelly Jane. Try fresh veggies and hummus from The Hummus Stop or healthy pudding options from Good Pud.

Pam’s Pickled Products has sweet and spicy pickled veggies for flavorful mid-day cravings and Golden Age Kombucha sells their beverages in cans for convenience.

Prep ahead by cooking up bacon from Campfire Farms for BLT lunches. It’s the perfect time thanks to tomato season. Add some greens and serve on sourdough bread from Fokattia or La Provence.

Great lunch box items include grapes and berries from RJ Farms, apples and pears from Kiyokawa Orchards and giant chewy cookies from Small Baking or Drea’s Badass Cookies (gluten free and vegan options, as well).

We hope this gives you a bit of variety and inspiration!
