All about Peaches!

IMG_2737Nothing says “summer” like a ripe,  drippy-sweet peach! We’ll have some glorious ones this Saturday…shop around and ask for a taste…you decide on the best. Saturday’s we are at 2051, Kaen Rd off Beavercreek Rd…45 vendors this week. With the last few weeks of summer coming up think (if you haven’t already) about preserving some of the wonderful flavors of the season. Many customers have told us that they want to start preserving, well THIS Saturday (and again on September 7th) the OSU Extension Master Food Preservers will be at the Market to inspire and help you start!  Freeze, Dry, Can or Pickle the Harvest, save $$, eat healthier!

Saturday’s focus will be on Peaches….from 10.00am  on… learn how to make (and CAN) peach salsa , with recipes too! They will also be talking about other ways to preserve the peaches…from straight-up canning in a light sugar syrup..to jam-making and freezing. Bring your questions and pick up great Ball Coupons, a Ball Guide to Canning , free packets of pectin to make freezer jam…and get busy! We’ll also be having a drawing for terrific Ball Canning Equipment…whoo hoo!

Fabulous Melons will be coming from Maryhill Orchards and Leones 3rd Generation Farm who have  Yellow , Crimson, Black Diamond and Jubilee Watermelon, Sun Jewel and Tiger Honey Dew, plus Hannah’s Choice and Athena’s Cantaloupe….they make a super-pretty melon salad! IMG_1961This Saturday 45 vendors selling Pastured Meats, farm Eggs, creamy Chevre (lovely with lightly sauteed Padron peppers, slices of melon , pickled beans….what ever!), fresh Seafood will include local ocean-run Sturgeon, Chinook salmon, Albacore Tuna and red Rockfish.  Bivalves will include Netarts Oysters and Steamer Clams while the Crustacea available are pink Shrimp and the 8” large Striper prawns!  Making a return appearance: Smoked Chinook Spread as well!  Baked Goods (including Wheat-Free Muffins by Big Foot Bread), Preserves and Ferments, (taste a new Cucumber Relish from Hansen Family Farms!)..Fresh Salsas..if you don’t want to make your own….pick up fall Veggie and Herb Plant Starts from Spring Creek Nursery (Ten Oaks Nursery will be back next week), Hummus, Wines, Kombucha, fresh Flowers, Landscaping Shells, Dog Treats …and don’t forget your DULL blades for Sir Sharp-A-Lot!!

Come for breakfast or lunch…we have hot food, cool drinks,  coffee and smoothies! Also….Savory et Sweet will have the following on their menu this weekend for crepes: Blusabi Beef with shaved red onion (back by special request!) Also serving the Vendor Breakfast crepe featuring scrambled market eggs and all the works…since the market opens early, Chris gets a lot of requests for more breakfast like items. 2013-08-17 09.44.07The POP Club Kids (5-12yrs) will be having fun with the Lions Club, (their Lions Strides program gets ’em moving) and they can pick up $3 from the Club this week, IF the POP Kids complete the activity course! We have the $5 SNAP Match again, thanks to Providence Willamette Falls…and if you run out of cash, we can swipe your Debit Card and give you $5 tokens to spend in the Market. Music by Robert Richter. Wednesday Market (3-7pm) is on 8th St at Main…a good little market to pick up fresh food half-way through the week…produce, meats, eggs, (fish every other week) baked goods, sauces, hummus, dog treats, coffee beans, kombucha, hot food, wine, fresh flowers, drinks and music.

The market accepts cash, debit, EBT (SNAP) and P-EBT cards. WIC and Senior Farm Direct checks are accepted by all produce vendors and expire on Nov 30th each year. Stop by our information booth for information.
