The Rock Stars of the Soil!

By 28 July 2016

20160702_090747That’s what farmers are…the rock stars of the soil, tending the living, breathing organism most of us just call ‘dirt’. Come and meet them this Saturday and let them know how much you appreciate their hard work! Everything you love to eat is now in season. Plan your meals around what’s at the Market and eat fresh, local and seasonal all year at the OC Farmers Market. That’s right we are open year-round, same location, although we do cut back to just every other weekend during the winter season. Winter bookmark schedules will be available later in August.

New this week is Grano Breads, a small batch neighborhood bakery with a big vision. Their focus is on naturally leavened sourdough hearth loaves using local grains and ingredients. The crusty breads incorporate freshly and traditionally milled flours. Born and raised in Oregon City, they are excited to join the Market this summer. You can follow them @granobreads to keep tabs on their local bricks and mortar location soon to come…close! Their breads will go great with the creamy chevre from Skamokawa Farmstead Creamery, the aged raw-milk cheddar from Cada Dia or the seasonal jams.

20160723_094535Did you know we now have pasta in the Market? Pappardelles Market Pasta joined us a few back with their great selection of over 174 flavors of dried pasta in a variety of shapes and sizes made from whole grain Duram Semolina grown in North Dakota and specialty grains grown in Washington State for their line of nutritional pasta’s such as farro, freekah and more. Some are Organic, some are gluten-free and some even sweet for dessert! They also sell Balsamic vinegars and olive oils. Chef Deborah will be making a pasta salad with fresh veggies this week. Watch, get a taste and take home a recipe and some to try this weekend.

20160723_094124Back this week is Natures Wild Harvest (mushrooms, honey and wild foraged foods), Wild Oregon Seafood (Chinook, Steelhead, Ling and Black Cod and more) 2 Towns Cider Company (hard ciders), Shine Essentials (naturally-made deodorants, massage oils, bug sprays etc), The Rusted Nail (hand-crafted furniture from recycled wood), out is Simington Gardens, Scratch Meats and Portlandia Granola (Portlandia is back next week!).
