Gotta Love This Time Of Year!
We are into Fall officially this last weekend of September . You can feel it in the early morning air and definitely find it on the farmers tables. Fall equals abundance. It’s when we straddle the seasons with both the summer veggies (tomatoes, peppers, cukes, zucchini etc), and the fall crops too. Seasonal shopping at the Market is so much fun. The products are changing and getting us in the mood for the coming months and all the holidays. Get inspiration for meals from the market this week and fill your basket!
Pumpkins are coming in. Leone’s Farm has Sugar Pie and Sunlove Farm has Winter Luxury pumpkins. Winter Squash is also showing up, you can find Acorn, Butternut, Delicata and Thelma Sanders already, Celery for soups and roasting, Cauliflower, Kale too. Plus Carrots, Beets, Salad Turnips, Asian greens, Salad Mix, tons of Peppers (hot and sweet), Tomatoes, Eggplant, Garlic, new crop of Potatoes, Cilantro and Basil (still) is just some of it all. Apples and Pears as well of course, plus Profarm Produce’s just-pressed Cider! (Kids press cider at the Market Oct. 15th)
As the Market’s products are seasonal, not like in the supermarket, talk to your farmers about bulk orders from them. Need a lot of potatoes, onions?….ask the farmers if they can bring you a sack or two for storage. Fill your pantry at the Market for the coming colder months, but remember we are open every week now through October 29th, and open on Saturday November 5th for the Winter Season! The Winter Market (35+ vendors) opens one hour later at 10am-2pm and runs every other weekend at the same location. You’ll get a notification like this before every Market if you are signed up on the web site’s main page. Check who’s coming each week by clicking on the map on 2016 Vendors page on the web site. We do our best to keep it current, but sometimes unforeseen things happen and a vendor can’t make it. We recommend contacting them through their Facebook Page or Web Site if you want a special order….especially around the Holidays.
Kids(ages 5-12 years) can join the Market’s POP (Power Of Produce) Club and get $2 in wooden tokens every time they come to Market to buy fresh produce! Each week we have an activity for them and this Saturday the OC Lions Club are at the Market with their activity course (The Lions Strides program). The POP Club is free to join!
In the Market Kitchen Chef Amy is cooking up Chicken Tortilla Soup for you to taste and get a recipe! Live music this Saturday is by the Worn Out Shoes String Band playing traditional fiddle and Banjo Music from Appalacia and the West, with a selection of songs about farming ….fittingly! Enjoy the morning at the Market, the vendors will thank you!
