Get Crafty at the Market!

By 14 July 2016

vintage-vibes-2016Can we say peaches, apricots, nectarines, berries, cukes, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, green beans, corn, padron peppers?…….yup Summer has arrived at the Market! In addition to ALL the deliciousness of the season we will also have a great selection of Crafts and Vintage this Saturday. Celebrate all that this area has to offer, food, wine, distilled spirits, plants , flowers…..AND local crafters and ‘cool-stuff finders’!. Bring your coolers, bags and friends, shop for food and then peruse the vendors booths for a treasure or two, it’s going to be a beautiful day.

The first tomatoes, mainly cherries, are making an entrance now.

New vendors are still joining us and this Saturday we welcome Skamokawa Farmstead Creamery. Situated on the banks of the Columbia River in WA, this creamery makes the most delicious (un-goaty!) chevre in several different flavors….plus the heavenly Cajeta.  Dare you to try their plain chevre with fresh peaches drizzled with this sauce….yum!!!  This is serious ‘farmstead’ chevre, meaning it’s made right there on the farm so you get it super-fresh. It’s definitely some of the very best around so make sure you stop and try a sample.

Let's not forget that great soil takes thousands of years to develop and once it's paved over it's gone forever.

Let’s not forget that great soil takes thousands of years to develop and once it’s paved over it’s gone forever.

A more serious word now. Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District is a very forward-thinking district and for years has been supportive of the County’s farmers markets including ours by offering grants each year. (They are the major funders of our amazing kids POP Club!). Please take the time to read the following article and think about how precious the land (soil) is in the Willamette Valley. The District’s Board Chair (and our board’s Vice President) Jeff Becker is quoted in the paper “If you get rid of farmland, it’s gone forever”. So let’s stop and think…. if we want our food sourced locally , if we are concerned about food security, then we should treasure some of the best soil in the world on our doorstep, we’ll need it in the coming decades.  http://www.capitalpress.com/Oregon/20160706/conservation-district-fights-farmland-development
