Finally…sun!!!
Your Happy Place will be the Market this Saturday! The warm weather has finally arrived and after the cold deluge of last weekend (ugh!) we’ll be looking forward to a dry market. If you don’t see a farmer or vendor you usually buy from, check with us at the Info Booth. Most farmers and growers are at least 2-3 weeks behind due to the wet, cold spring but they ARE coming! In addition several vendors are on an every-other weekend schedule. You can check the map on the web site’s main page to see who’s coming each week, or call 503 734-0192 and ask the manager. FYI: The vast majority of market farmers and vendors now have the Square and the ability to take credit and debit cards as payment, check with them!
Back this week is Olympia Provisions, 2 Towns Cider, TMK Creamery (with new-born CALF!) , Paparadelles Pasta, Petal Heads (unusual flowering plants) , Karla’s Green Glass (garden crafts) , Delice Confections and Organic Necessity (Dryer balls, soap seeds and more to keep your laundry free from chemicals!). Too many great vendors to mention here, check the map, make a list and bring your shopping bags!
Asparagus, greens, radishes, herbs and salad mix feature strongly this week, and possibly peas, but the warmth next week will get everything growing now. RJ Farm’s will have hot house strawberries again, but get to market early if you want some! We’ll have plenty of hens and duck eggs, pastured meats from Fisher Ridge Farm, Campfire Farm and Birkelend Farm. Wild Oregon has Sand Sole, fresh Shrimp, Chinook Salmon, Sturgeon and smoked Albacore dip. Choice of cheese this week from Goldin Artisan Cheese and TMK Creamery too. La Provence Bakery has crusty breads and pastries, but if we want to see Gano Bakery back at the Market we’ll have to find them staff…they are too busy right now and need extra hands, especially in the bakery! Know anyone? Maggy’s Farm is bringing veggie and herb plant starts including 80+ varieties of tomatoes, the first basil plants (several kinds) and more.
We welcome Bob’s Red Mill this week! Sophia is making a market salad using BRM grains, get a taste and a recipe, and check out their cooking classes at the Mill: http://www.bobsredmill.com/cooking-classes.html. The POP Club kids will be in the Market Kitchen with Chef Deborah making a pasta salad from 9.30 on. Check out the fiber arts at the Spinners booth and Big Yellow Taxi is bringing us happy music from 10am-1.30pm. Sara’s Tamales, Second Son (Korean) and Ingrid’s Scandinavian foods are providing good market ‘eats’!
