Dedicating Labor Day…to our farmers and vendors!

Who amongst us toils more than the people who work so we can put local food on our tables? Reward them this Saturday by buying an extra bag of something they have put their labor into! And while you are at it, we have a lot of vendors who also make their products by a labor of love, so give them some kudos too.

The NW Ferments gals gave a great Kraut workshop last week, they are back in the market on Sept. 8th!

Did you miss the Kraut workshop last week? We still have recipes (at the Info booth) and more cabbage this week too. In the Market Kitchen Chef Deborah will be making an easy one pot tomato pasta recipe. Stop by and get a taste, pick up a recipe and take home some lovely fresh tomatoes and basil…and get cooking! Culture Aromatics is back this week, so you can stock up with their blended organic vegetables seasonings.

It’s back to school week and we have lots of ideas for healthy lunches…starting with Bliss Nut Butters! Plus sweet little cherry tomatoes, new crops of apples, lot’s of berries still….and new-to-the-market Chain Bridge Bagels can all find their way into lunch boxes too.

It might be the end of the school vacation, but it’s the beginning of dahlia season!

Concerned about too much plastic? We are! Our new vendor Opportunity Earth has beeswax-coated fabric to wrap up food instead of using plastic wrap or foil AND Megan has cloth sandwich bags also. We have just picked up another 50 cloth produce bags (suggested donation of $1 a bag), and dropped off a bolt of fabric for the volunteers to make into even more bags! Find them hanging on the clothes line behind the Information Booth but get there early, they are sure to fly off the line again! Our large, insulated, zippered Market Shopping bags are proving popular so if you forget yours, head on over to the Info Booth and purchase one of ours for $6. Confused about what you can recycle now? The Master Recyclers are coming Saturday to set you straight, bring your questions to their booth at the entrance.

This is THE booze market! Sample products from 5 distilleries, 3 cideries and 3 wineries…well may be don’t sample them ALL!

Having Labor Day festivities? Well this week we have THE market to get your party going! 5 distilleries, 3 cideries, and 3 wineries will be set up for tastings! Yes, we’ve done the Eat Local thing, it’s now the Drink Local market scene! Fire up the BBQ! Fisher Ridge Farm will have lot’s of different cuts pastured meats (Beef, chicken, pork, lamb) and Campfire Farms pastured pork is getting rave reviews (check out their Facebook page!). Shy Ann Meats is out now until next February, Phil is getting ready for hunting season! Gluten-free? Mic’s Mix is back this week with GF baking mixes, pluis Delice Confections is now making a small selection of GF treats.

Help us to raise $1000 by the end of September, then we get the $1000 challenge donation to keep our Double Up Food Bucks program going!

We are still raising funds to keep our educational programs going, especially our Double Up Food Bucks. We have been offered an amazing $1000 challenge grant and we still have a long way to go and the deadline is at the end of September….yikes!!
