Cheese lovers rejoice!

By 20 July 2017

Not one, not two, but THREE local farmstead cheese vendors will be at the Market this Saturday!   TMK Creamery from Canby are back selling their cheddar cheese and cheese curds, but without a calf this time. In addition we have Skamakawa Farmstead Creamery from the banks of the Columbia in WA, with their multiple flavors of very delicious chevre and feta. Goldin Artisan Cheese is joining us too from Molalla. Carrine’s hand-crafted semi-soft and semi-hard rustic cheeses regularly win awards nationally and internationally. Yes this week is the Market to taste them ALL!  FYI: A Farmstead cheese is one that is made on the farm from milk provided by that farm’s animals, all three of these farms are classified as ‘Farmstead’…… and you can taste the ‘terroir’ or ‘environmental conditions’ of the farm in all their cheeses. This is ‘Slow Food’ at it’s best!

The beautiful summer produce is pouring into the Market this month, including melons, peaches and corn from Maryhill Fruit Company and cherries from Kiyokawa Orchards. Yes Kiyokawa Orchards fruit is just beginning their season. Randy’s orchards are high up on Mt Hood so his produce is always later, but he continues through the Fall and Winter with his multiple varieties of pears and apples, many of which are heirloom. Both farms have contracted with Bret Caldwell (Caldwell Family Farms) to be their representative and are working together to keep us supplied with their wonderful produce. You’ll find all the berries, summer squash, green beans, beets and so much more, including tomatoes and Padron peppers from RJ farms already!

We have all the farms in now including a new one,  Coyote Ridge Farm,  from Oregon City! Proud to say that 4 of our market’s farms are Certified Naturally Grown and Coyote Ridge will soon be joining the group. Growing delicious produce cleanly is what it’s all about and the market encourages our farms to get certification.

61 canopies going up this week. Back in the Market is Culture Aromatics, Utopia Woodworking, and Sweet Chaos Bakery. Pickle lovers can rejoice too…Pam’s Pickled Products is back! Joining us for the first time is Blossoming Baby…unique essentials for the modern baby, including wall art. Rocking it in the music tent this week is Joe Reverb and the Last Holdouts. Bring a cooler, leave your shopping in the car, grab some food and drink, pull up a chair and enjoy! FYI: Over 40 items were brought into the Repair Fair last week and most left ‘fixed’…plus 96 kids made freezer berry jam and left very proud. Thanks to the volunteers who made this all happen!

An important Blood Drive at the Market this week. The American Red Cross is experiencing a CRITICAL blood shortage and has issued an EMERGENCY call for donations. You can call and make an appointment or just show up, 9am-2pm, they’ll be very happy to see you!  rcblood.org/appt
