Berries and Cherries for the 4th!

Just in time for the July 4th celebration there will be plenty of berries and cherries in the Market! Boysens, Marions, Blackberries, Raspberries and Strawberries to decorate the cake or make a fruit salad to go with the ice cream. Cherries are in abundance too, with plenty of Pie cherries coming from Leone’s Farm this week…fancy making a pie for the 4th? Kiyokawa Orchards are spectacular, even in early spring! Take a trip up to their farmstand in the late summer and wow!… it’s well worth the drive.

Kiyokawa Orchards are back for the rest of the year. This beautiful farm up in Parkdale was voted one of the top 5 orchards in the US! The delicious fruit it produces is always a draw at the Market. Randy Kiyokawa is a third generation orchardist whose grandfather emigrated from Japan in 1905, and through hard work started farming in Hood River in 1911. https://mthoodfruit.com/  Randy farms sustainably, using organic methods where he can. Come and meet Cody who will be selling the fruit this summer and fall. Saturday he will be bringing both dark and yellow sweet cherries…but much more fruit is on it’s way this summer!

New potatoes coming this week from Sun Love farm and Brown Bottle Farm.

In the Market kitchen Chef Amy is cooking Dover sole with a sorrel mayo! Sole is easy and quick to cook, and the mayo is a delicious change. Serve with new potatoes from Sunlove Farm and Brown Bottle Farm and sweet green beans. Are you hungry yet?! Stop by the Kitchen watch Amy prepare the fish, get a taste and pick up a recipe…and get cooking! Wild Oregon will have plenty of Dover Sole and also Chinook Salmon, Rock Fish, Shrimp and Netarts Bay Oysters too.

La Provence has Challah Rolls, they keep well or can be frozen and make a great burger!

Fisher Ridge Farm (their ground beef makes the perfect patty) and Campfire Farm ( their pork chops and brats will have you coming back for more) have all kinds of meats for the BBQ. Try La Provence Bakery’s Challah rolls for your burgers! Grano Bakery is out this week, back next week.

Get the party going on the 4th , pop open a cocktail in a can from 503 Distilling or mix one up using Eastside’s or Trails Distilling spirits! 2 Towns Cider will be getting the party started early with lots of tastes Saturday! Kings Raven Winery will be sampling too.

Fresh lavender coming from Laughing Dog Lavender this week.

Back this week is Mic’s Mix (Gluten-Free baking mixes), Clean Slate Suds (excellent washing powder that you can feel good about) and Sew Silly. New to the Market is Mirabri Ceramics and Laughing Dog Lavender. This lavender farm in Boring OR grows a variety of lavender types, and will have both fresh and dried lavender bouquets, lavender potpourri products, lavender plants.

Coming up next week (July 7th) is the $5 bike helmet sale. Providence Willamette Falls hospital will fit the helmets for both for kids and adults. In two weeks, July 14th, we have the Repair Fair again. Do you know how to mend clothing or repair jewelry? We’re still looking for volunteers for this event! Repair Fairs are events that bring volunteer fixers together with people who have broken items, and we try to fix it (for free)! They are a great way to meet new people, learn useful skills, and keep usable items out of the landfill.
