Market News for June 11th:  Every market day we provide a $10 SNAP Match to shoppers with the SNAP card purchasing market tokens. It is important to us as a Market to support those with less means, enabling fresh healthy foods to be consumed by all.  In addition, every second Saturday of the month, in partnership with OSU Extension we are offering the SNAP To It! Program. If you have a SNAP Card or know of someone, participating is EASY! Sign- up by 9.15am at the Information booth and purchase your SNAP tokens. Market tokens are matched up to $10/day.  Walk the market and meet your local farmers.  Watch a Chef’s Demo and sample fruits and vegetables prepared in simple, flavorful ways. Recipes provided.  And there’s MORE!  Sign-up, Walk the Market, and Watch the demo, and you will receive an extra $5 in market tokens, plus other incentives. Since our opening in May 2005 our Market has always accepted SNAP and Debit. A lot more vendors now accept Debit and Credit cards at their booth too,  if you run out of cash, just ask them!

Cherries including Pie Cherries this week!

Cherries including Pie Cherries this week!

Plenty of produce coming this week, including all the berries, cherries, even pie cherries. With the extra heat earlier this week the zucchini and cucumbers are making an entrance. We have several new vendors joining us this summer and two will be at the Market Saturday. Shine Essentials makes all-natural deodorants , sun-screen and much more. Phlox and Figwort make smudges, incense and salves from grown and foraged plants, just outside of Oregon City. Later next month Campfire Farms joins us, bringing pastured pork products. Christina will be sampling her meat at the Market too! Out this week is Diana’s Delights, Maggy’s Farm and Cada Dia Cheese…all back next week, June 18th.

Mark your calendars...another super-fun day at the Market on June 18th!

Mark your calendars…another super-fun day at the Market on June 18th!

Next Saturday is the annual Householding Fair (think Homesteading on your urban lot). We will have the Portland Homestead Store with some very cool items, Oregon City’s own NW Ferments with milk kefir and water kefir grains plus more ideas for you to get healthy gut bacteria! The Master Gardeners will be talking about “Growing your own Food” at 10am, The Master Food Preservers will be encouraging you to preserve the bounty this summer and the kids (5-12 years) will be cooking from 9.30 on. Clackamas Soil and Water Conservation District will have information on Rain-Water Harvesting and with the forecast dry hot summer (again) this might be something you are considering. Learn how to make your own green cleaners and ditch the chemicals.  All this plus chickens, goats and bees…spinners too! Harriet Fassenfest will be book signing…her wonderful book, The Householders Guide to the Universe is a must read for the Urban (and not-so urban) Householder!). Fun for the whole family as usual at the Market:)
