Thanksgiving Market! Seasonal foods, crafts…even roasted chestnuts!

Thanksgiving is about celebrating friends, family, food….and farmers! Join your market ‘family’ this Saturday, thank your farmer and relish the foods just-picked, raised and made locally on your table this season. 38 vendors on Saturday Nov. 21st, including 6 farms selling a wide selection of fresh produce, eggs and pastured meats. We’re supporting the local HOPE Food Bank in November and December, please bring canned, boxed foods and toiletries and drop them in the barrel by the Info Booth.  Find us in the parking lot at 2051, Kaen Rd, off Beavercreek Rd, on the ‘hill’ every other Saturday through April. Schedules at the Info Booth.  Opening at 10am till 2pm. Plenty of close parking, great (new!) hot food vendors and live music.

2015-11-07 09.33.51We’ll have an excellent selection of fresh veggies and fruit including , from Sun Love Farms, Winter Luxury Pie Pumpkins. They have excellent flavor and a light delicate texture reminiscent of souffle that makes a great pumpkin pie. Stock up on Delicata squash, which has extremely sweet flavor, and is so easy to cook…don’t know how to? Ask the farmer or us at the Info Booth! RJ Farms are bringing their first sweet potatoes, plus carrots, cauliflower, greens, potatoes, onions, peppers and green beans.  Their cherry tomatoes will go great on top of Caldwell Family Farm’s freshly picked salad mix!

A selection of Certified Organic meats are coming from Deck Family Farms… plus we’ll have plenty of farm eggs. Sun Love Farms have duck eggs, super-nutritious and great for baking, and find hens eggs from Deck Farms, RJ Farms and Caldwell Farm too. Kiyokawa Orchards are bringing boxes of fruit, pears and apples, including the #1 voted best OC market apple, Crimson Crisp, also Honeycrisp and Newtown Pippins and more.

Scratch Meats will have their sausage meat available for Thanksgiving stuffings and breakfast sausage for …you guessed it….Thanksgiving breakfast! Don’t wait that long though, try their excellent hot breakfast sausage sandwiches (oh my!), plus Brats and Italian sausage in a bun…fixings include sweet peppers, onions and kraut.  Like them? Take home frozen packs for the holidays. Sara’s Tamales not only have the best tamales (and enchiladas, burritos) ready to eat, but will have them frozen in packs to take home for a quick mid-week supper.

Seafood from Wild Oregon includes fresh crab (sourced north of Bellingham) Steelhead, Netarts Bay oysters, Black Rock fish, Sole, Steamer Clams, crab cakes and smoked Chinook spread.

If you arrive and smell something wonderful….Natures Wild Harvest will be roasting chestnuts! Bill will also have fresh Chanterelle, Maitake, and Shiitake mushrooms, plus honey, nettle tea and dried mushroom powders. He Sells These Shells will have walnuts and hazelnuts for your table and hazelnut shells for landscaping. New products this week from Birkland Farm include bone broth, (chicken and beef, great bases for winter soups) apple butter, cranberry chutney, pastured chickens, whole and parts, plus,  gravy and soup ( roasted tomato bisque, creamy potato leek) frozen in quarts, try hot samples.  Stop by Bliss Nut Butters and get a hazelnut encrusted squash recipe!

Try Cada Dia aged cheddar cheese (the garlic is dreamy) with Diana’s Delights ‘Quince Charming’ jam on crackers….plus sample their fresh curds and jalapeno feta too. La Provence Bakery are bringing all their crusty breads and pastries, including pumpkin-filled croissants! The Pie Guy will have both small and large pies (pumpkin, apple, berry and more) and Granny Fi’s Scottish shortbread is back in this week. Sample local wines from Kings Raven Winery and fruit brandys from Stone Barn Brandyworks (the Pear is heaven). Bags of roasted beans from Double Jump Coffee are available as well as hot cups to sup.  All you need for dinner is right here at the Oregon City Winter Market!

IMG_3151Live European Folk music by Coin of the Realm entertain while you shop for wooden crafts, hammered copper table wear,  handcrafted jewelry , candles, soaps and lotions! Tis’ the season…almost. Homegrown Harvest are bringing in their wreaths, swags and a few trees…more coming in the December markets.

SNAP Match!!!  Snap customers can access $20 free each month (come to both markets) when they purchase $20 in market tokens from us (they never expire, if you don’t use them all, bring them back anytime). And thanks for helping us get the word out about this amazing help with food budgets. Kids (5-12 years) get $2 from the markets POP Club program………so fun for everyone this winter! The market accepts cash, debit, EBT (SNAP) and P-EBT cards. WIC and Senior Farm Direct checks are accepted by all produce vendors and expire on Nov 30th each year. Stop by our information booth for information.
