Blood Drive..and Tomato Contest!

2015-08-01 11.19.24The Market is open weekly, Saturdays, 9am-2pm, through October 24th, on the parking lot at 2051, Kaen Rd, off Beavercreek Rd..the home of the Market year-round now! Starting November 7th find us at this SAME location for the Winter Farmers Market, Saturdays, 10am-2pm, twice a month through April.

Red is the dominant color at the Market this week! Bloodworks NW is having a blood drive to help area hospitals, including Providence Willamette Falls here in Oregon City. They have been sourcing blood for hospitals for over 70 years and supply over 50% of all blood needed in the Metro area. Do something good for you community..and then shop!

2013-08-13 17.11.51AND we are having our annual Best Tomato in the Market contest..you get to taste all the different fabulous tomatoes, from the sweet to acidic, cherry to beefsteak,  yellow, green, orange, purple, red, black and vote for the best one! Plus Chef Deborah from On A Whim studios in Lake Oswego will be making several delicious recipes this week and next week using heirloom tomatoes. Come and watch, get a taste, take home a recipe and be inspired to make something new..starting at 10.30am!

2014-07-19 12.07.34Find 55 vendors this week. See, smell and sample all the gorgeous summer fruits and vegetables from 10 local farms. Peaches are abundant, apples too…..early this year! Berries can still be found, peppers are coming in strong and of course plenty of corn, melons and tons of tomatoes. Natures Wild Harvest is back with mushrooms and possibly more huckleberries, He Sells These Shells is back with landscaping shells and Utopia Woodworking is back with their beautifully-made Adirondack chairs (with cut-outs for wine glasses…just in case you wanted to catch the last summer sunsets sitting and sipping on the porch!) 2 Towns Cider is back too.

Mitzil will have tamales and burritos, but Renaissance Pizza is gone for 2 weeks at events and will be back in early September. However our friends at Buttercraft will be making some delicious Poca Bocca sandwiches….if you have not tried their handcrafted and infused butters you are missing out.  Maitake mushrooms sauteed with their Wolf and Bears Butter (Jalapenos, cumin, garlic, lemon) is spectacular or simply slather it over fresh corn! Oh, and this just in…Wild Oregon is bringing Chinook Salmon and Albacore Tuna at the lowest prices…stock up the freezer! Robin will also have shell fish and her famous ice-cold Blueberry Lemonade.

2015-08-20 17.29.15It might still be warm out but Winters Coming (!)…Maggys Farm is back with healthy cold-season veggie plant starts..kales, chard, broccoli, mizuna, raddichio, mustards, cabbage, collards, plus there is still time to plant and harvest basil and cilantro will do well going into Fall. Live music (10am-1.30am) is by Switchgrass, blue-grass at heart but also playing folk and rock. Debit and SNAP Cards can be used at the Information Booth to purchase market tokens if you run out of cash and we still have the $5 SNAP Match! The kids (5-12yrs) can join (for free) the Market’s Kid’s POP Club, which gives them $2 EVERY time they come to market to purchase fresh produce and food plants. This week’s  activity for them is the Lions Strides-A physical activity course with an earned reward! Thanks to the OC Lions Club:)

Come and join us…not just shopping at the Market but helping us too! We still need volunteers for all kinds of things…set up, take down, Info Booith help, tastings, kids activities. You only have to spare a couple of hours a month..or more! We’re a fun bunch, honest. The market sets up between 10-13 canopies with 100lbs of weight on each canopy, plus 25-35 tables and 45 chairs, signage, trash bins, generator etc. Help us with this and you get to work out for free, in the fresh air, and meet great people, while helping your farmers market.
