Preparedness and Safety Day!

By 7 July 2016

OCFM-preparedness-flyerWhile the Market’s main goal is to connect customers to farmers, growers and local food businesses, we are also a community gathering place and that gave us the idea of providing an event focussed on “Being Prepared”.  In the event of a natural disaster, an earthquake, a fire, a flood , storm damage….are you prepared? If not come along to the Market (yes we’re open rain, shower or shine!) and get information on keeping your family safe. The Red Cross, Clackamas County CERT, the Fire Department, Providence Hospitals, OSU Extension Master Food Preservers will all have info, displays and give-a-ways.  The Fire Dept. will have a prize wheel for fire safety questions and a Hands-Only CPR table and Providence Hospitals will have $5 Bike Helmets for all ages! The Master Food Preserver volunteers will be on-site to answer any questions that you have regarding food preservation, and also emergency food and water storage.  Come by and spin their Food Safety Wheel in exchange for a prize.  Registration forms for upcoming Food Preservation classes will also be available at the booth.  Make this the summer YOU get prepared!

20160618_110757Calling all SNAP shoppers.  It’s the second Saturday of the month, which means the return of the popular SNAP-To-IT Program.  SNAP shoppers sign-up by 9.15am at the Info Booth, participate in a Farmers’ Market Tour  and food demonstration, and in exchange receive an additional $5 in market tokens and other useful incentive items.  Featured recipe this week will be the Tortilla Casserole recipe, available on https://www.foodhero.org/, prepared by Chef Amy, using food ingredients for sale at the market.  Leave with ideas to purchase fresh fruits and vegetable at the best prices, and also how to prepare them in simple, flavorful ways.  (Sign-up at the Information Booth at 9:15 am SHARP!)  The County’s WIC office is at the Market too this Saturday!
