SEEDY SATURDAY Seed and Plant Swap at the Market THIS Saturday March 16th, 10-2, on 8th St at Main in Downtown Oregon City! Celebrate St Paddy’s Day with Robert Richter on guitar and Rachel Bowen on fiddle…playing new and traditional Celtic music…yes it’s all happening at the Farmers Market this weekend! Next Market after this one will be on April 6th.
The Seed Swap Table will be manned by Master Gardeners (bring your questions) and Seed-Saving Experts! Bring any seeds you’d like to share , take some home with you. If you have none to share then take a packet anyway and sow seeds this summer, save the seed and bring ‘em back to the next Seedy Saturday, March 2014. We are also accepting pots, tools …anything you’d like to share with others. We’ll have a good selection of unusual seed catalogs too:)
Wander through the market, pick out the freshest local produce, and talk directly to the people who grew it , feel connected to your community! Produce available will be 5 kinds of radish, green and storage onions,arugula, mizuna, cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, miner’s lettuce (packed full of goodness) baby green and red leaf lettuce, chard, kale, potatoes, carrots, turnips, rutabagas, parsnips, beets, 4 kinds of pears and 5 kinds of apple. NB: this will be possibly be the last day for fruit until the berries are ripe…there is only so long local tree fruits can be in storage successfully so stock up:)
Just in time for Easter and St Paddy’s Day Sweet Home Farms will have Hams and Beef Brisket for 25% off! This means saving of well over $10 on each ham. Always best to order ahead of time by calling or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org 541-367-0687 . They will have lots of fresh eggs too! AND Wild Oregon will be bringing (amongst other products) RAZOR CLAMS! Channel Rockfish, and Black Cod (sablefish or Butterfish).
We’ll have freshly made salsas, hummus, lemon curd, relishes and chutneys, jams, fruit vinegars and roasted on site nuts! Plenty of both hen and duck eggs too. Out this weekend (back next Market) is Portland Creamery and La Provence Bakery, but Big Foot Bread is baking up a storm! Wine by the glass from Kings Raven and now Beer too from Seven Brides Brewing Co. featuring this Saturday: a Belgium IPA and Emily’s Ember, a roasted malt red ale with a light hop!
Crafts will include wooden items (boards, spoons etc), knitted items and fiber and beautifully crafted soaps and lotions. Hazelnut shells by the bag are ready for your landscaping project too.
Hot food will be served by Mitzil’s Mexican Restaurant and Chris from Savory et Sweet will be celebrating St. Patty’s Day this Saturday ~ lots of green! She typically uses lots of healthy green, super foods on the menu, but this weekend will be over the rainbow! Soup du Jour: Arugula Chicken. This popular offering uses green arugula pesto and is served with bread and butter. Crepes: Irish Meat & Potato with **new** Beer Batter crepe! Naturally from Seven Brides Brewing Co…the Brewery next door! Also on the menu: Finian’s Rainbow crepe; Chicken Arugula or the Figgy. Plus the usual sweet crepe offerings. Beverages: Leprechaun Repellent (also known as Green Therapy!)
The Market accepts SNAP and WIC Coupons and Debit Cards. The Kids POP Club continues…..kids (5-12) receive $2 to shop for fresh produce! (Plus shopping bag and button when they sign up) Bring the family, or bring a friend…check out what Downtown Oregon City has to offer…hint…..new businesses are opening this spring!
