This weeks Wednesday Market (8th St at Main, 3-7pm) falls on the First Day of Summer!!! …and you’ll find all kinds of “summery” products! From White Star Farms look for fresh peas, radishes, kale, chard and lettuce. They will have plenty of their rinsed, bagged lettuce mix. Jeff and Sharon harvest this by hand first thing in the morning on market days, so it arrives at the market fresh as can be. Along with some of those peas and radishes, you can be eating fresh, locally grown salads all week! They will also have plant starts including cucumbers, peppers and herbs. Parsons Farms will have strawberries, rhubarb, onions, peas, lettuce, artichokes and zucchini …….yes it’s started! Albeke Farms and South Barlow Berries (plus their Russian pastries) will all have strawberries too…and as it’s National Jam Week (in England) …may be it’s time to buy a flat and make something yummy for the pantry?
Shy Ann Meats will be bringing Old Fashioned Wieners straight out of the smoke-house and sampling them . If you haven’t had their bacon… try it and you won’t go back to regular bacon! They will have lots of their other sausages , smoked pork products and eggs too. La Provence will have crusty breads and pastries, Diana’s Delights will have a fresh batch of Lemon Curd (with Greek Yogurt and Strawberries…heaven!)…and the ever-popular Jalapeno Jam, great with pork, chicken or veggies on the BBQ or with cream cheese and crackers. The Hummus Stop will have a selection of salads, hummus and (wicked!) pita chips, Kings Raven Winery will have both bottles and glasses of wine…raise a glass to summer! Willamette Valley Confectionery will be back with their wonderful fruit and chocolate candies…all made with fruit from, yes, the Willamette Valley:) Try a sample…and check out their packaging, super cute…. these treats make great gifts as well as being totally delicious.
Food Forest Farm will be bring their pasture-raised Kurbota Pork, plant starts, Shiso soap (smells heavenly,) lavender fire-lighters and hand-made cloth shopping bags. New this week at the Wednesday Market is Simple Cedar…..selling handcrafted cedar planters…with succulents already planted in them both for the table outside and as wall hangings… birdhouses with succulent roofs too…all fun and different! Also for the garden….as a fund-raiser for the Beavercreek School Garden and the Market’s Kid’s POP Club we’ll have 2 gallon pots of Marguerite Daisies. These spectacular perennial lemon-yellow daisies bloom all season, are heat tolerant and grow to 18″-36″….. only $8….WOW!!!
Music Wednesday is by Robert Richter and the weather will be great too…..so……stop by and celebrate the first day of summer at your local Farmers Market! (After 5pm you can park easily and for free behind Busch’s Furniture Store)
Coming up this Saturday at the main Market on Kaen Rd (9-2) we’ll be having a talk on Pruning by the Master Gardeners (bring questions) and the Kids POP Club activity is Lions Strides!
