MORE Strawberries this week! The berry season has begun….Rick Steffens Farms, Leones Farms and now Parsons Farms with their field grown berries will be back in the Market for the season starting this weekend…just look at Cliff Parsons with those BIG tasty berries!
Lovely local carrots, asparagus, beets, broccoli, onions, potatoes, chard, spinach, kale, peas, shallots…even some of the first zucchini! BUT get there early for the pick of the crop:) Fava Beans are ready right now, wash, toss in olive oil and BBQ or sautee, season with sea salt and eat the tender pods whole or simply suck the beans out…delicious ‘with a little Chianti’ (and what film is THAT from…?!) Find the Favas and Chianti bottle (hopefully NOT the mask!) at Pitkin-Winterrowd Farms booth, along with Tom’s homemade Bath, Kitchen and Gardeners Soap made from his farm crops. This week he also has dried beans to add to that ham hock for soup.
Apart from the vegetables and berries the Market will be well stocked with protein!…tons of farm fresh eggs, goats milk chevre, wild fish (including Chinook Salmon, Red Rock fish, Steamer Clams…and a special on Anchovies) and locally-raised meats. Sweet Home Farms will be offering lots of delicious pork—bone-in shoulder roasts, shoulder steaks, loin roasts, bacon, sausage, and ground pork. For people who are planning to bbq this weekend, they’ll have Hungarian, Andouilles, Polish, and Beef Wieners. No MSG, no Nitrites, 100% grassfed beef. Hansen Family Farms will have their pastured pork and beef, and PLENTY of eggs…… Healthy Happy Homegrown goodness!
This weeks Master Gardener Workshop (10am-10.30am) will be on Growing Blueberries…and Three Brothers will be selling plants too….blueberries are one of the most nutritious foods you can grow, delicious and easy to add into a great variety of foods and super easy to freeze and keep through the cold months for those smoothies, muffins!
Back this week is Curds on the Way with their cheese, bread and vinegar-making kits…beautifully produced, packaged and easy steps to follow…or register for one of Gayle’s fabulous workshops.
